We're having a party (yes im on OcUK, ive gone to my room to cool down before I smack some poor git that doesn't deserve it)

Now, rules of the house include not smoking in the house because it makes it ****ing stink and the non smokers (3 out of 8 of us) really dont like it.

So we have the party and everyone just starts smoking in the house. I've asked everyone i've seen to stop doing it nicely yet i return about 20 minutes later and they've lit up again.

Is it really that unreasonable of me to expect people to not smoke in my house? The worst of it is the dirty looks and comments I get when I ask people not to. I have to sleep here tonight and my absolutely STINKS of fags. it's horrible.

why are people so damn disrespectful when they start drinking?

carry a water pistol. Really though its gonna happen. Always does every party ive been to. you either can patrol the rooms or live with it and just try to use air freshners tmrw.

It's not unreasonable, no. But people are daft when they're drunk and if one does it they'll all assume it's alright. It's kind of normal for people to be able to smoke at a 'proper' party though - but it's your house, it should be up to you. Just chuck water over everyone who smokes, they'll either stop smoking in the house, go home, or there'll be a massive fight. :D

The last house I was in, the landlord's rule was "no smoking" but the house rule was "smoke if you want." Was there ever an issue before with people smoking?

If one of the tenants is allowing people to smoke take him/her aside and tell them to cop on. If guests are taking it upon themselves to smoke then just tell them to **** off.

there's no way i'd put up with it in my house. but then we're all non-smokers. if we had a party and people were smoking inside they'd be politely asked to move outside. if they didn't they'd be -less- politely asked to move outside. ;)

I don't agree with that! I've been at tonnes of proper parties where the invited guests went outside the door (or at least stood in the hall) to smoke! It only gets unruly when a big crowd of friends-of-friends showed up.

Im just like you mate, i wont have anyone smoke in my flat. If i were you id throw them out. I wouldnt think twice about throwing a mate out. They know you dont like it, and they continue. They have no respect for you or your house. Tell them to **** ***

That's what I meant by 'proper' - badly worded on my part, sorry. I mean a largish party that's not all people you're properly acquainted with.
I like going to those parties but you'd want to be an idiot to throw one of them! Some one stole my sister's house keys from her bag when she threw one of those parties. Not sure if some one did it out of badness (jealous she got a new house), stupidity or something more sinister. This was when she was about 20 and just bought the house so thankfully she's got a bit of sense now!

And, as a smoker, I'd like to add:

I'm happy to smoke in a non-smoker's house as long as I firmly believe they don't mind - if I get the feeling they don't want me to, but are allowing me to be polite, I won't do it, or if I'm a tiny bit unsure I go and stand right by an open window and hang out of that. If I fully know I'm allowed to smoke I will, and if I know I'm not allowed to, I won't do it and won't ask again.

Same with people's cars. If it's their house/flat/room/car, it's up to them who does what in it and that most certainly includes smoking, which, let's be honest, smells.

Serve them the pale-ale!
Short of that, just start screaming at them. They'll be so freaked out they'll either leave, or go outside. People will see them and follow them. It's all good.

My house is non smoking house so when we have partys people have to go outside to smoke, why should we have to wake up and small a room that stinks of smoke.

Remind me never to go to one of your partys.
Why? People shouldn't think they have the right to smoke in someone elses house, the fact that someone would is sheer ignorance. I know many people who smoke and all of them would go outside, much like Mohinder said.
