ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the military to withdraw the "main part" of their forces in Syria, saying they had largely achieved their goals.

Funny I don't remember Islamic State being defeated - in fact don't they control more land in Syria now than before the Russian airstrikes started? Mission accomplished Vlad?

They do?

That's news to the world, you may have a leading story there why don't you ring the BBC.

Although in reality more scorza garbage.

This will more than likely be troops surrounding the bases will now withdraw, as a large enough perimeter is set up for safety.

Where do you think I read it? Unlike Russia Today, the BBC actually do journalism and don't just spout the Kremlin's line verbatim (that means word-for-word). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-27838034

The simple fact is that the only effective air force in theatre are the western ones - hence the IS losses in Iraq. Russia are only good for dumb-bombing - didn't one of their cruise missiles land in Iran lol? That's not even a country that shares a border with Syria. They got proper mugged off by Turkey as well - turns out you can provoke the bear and it won't do anything.

I can not be bothered giving the BBC foot traffic. If they are reporting that ISIS have made gains since Russia started bombing they are really worse than i thought...

ISIS have lost significant chunks of land to the SAA and the SDF both of which have been backed by Russian strikes.

Where have the massive gains been in Iraq? they are marginally better than the ones in Syria and that is with the entire country fighting against ISIS near enough united. Where as the legitimate government have been fighting many different terrorist organisations within Syria. I.e they have all but cleared the Latakia province of terrorist and taken a good section back of Aleppo and now working towards securing Palmyra.

The cruise missile did not just land randomly in Iran, it was flying over Iran towards Syria but malfunctioned one of about 20 that was fired.

His link doesn't really back up what he is saying. It does show IS gaining more territory in Syria between Jan and December last year, but considering the Russian air strikes only started in September there is no evidence to suggest Russian air strikes are helping IS (and no where in the article does it say so). It also shows less territory in Iraq, which could indicate IS taking advantage of the power vaccum in Syria at the beginning of last year whilst being pushed out of Iraq by renewed offensives.

Territory maps from September last year to now would be far more useful, but would probably show Isis territory reduced.

Haha BBC..journalism please. They have more chance of reporting the weather right.

Disagree scorza. Since Russian bombing campaign Syria retook more in 6wks than the entirety of the time during the western bombardment on Syrian government troops. Lets not forget the US and UK as well as Turkey and I dare say other NATO countries were funding ISIS.

Remember the lines of oil tankers into Turkey and Erdogimp saying he would resign if true... Well it was true by that psycho is still in power. Remember who is using chemical weapons and it was ISIS and the most recent Sarin attacks or whatever gas it was?

Turkey is now the impetus of the problem and worse they are backed by the biggest military alliance in the world

@RaohNS - how do you explain the Russian engineers working at Islamic State controlled oil fields? The fact is it's the US that's been bombing IS' oil producing capabilties - not Russia, they've been concentrating on carpet bombing cities.

My word how many times do you need to bring this up. I have explained it earlier in the thread, which you went on to ignored and then persist in keep bringing it up as though you have some new information have you have not already been made to look look like a fool over.

Was this like the time you categorically proved that Islamic State were active in Aleppo, by posting a link which showed that Islamic State wasn't in Aleppo? :D

Now i know you are just on the wind-up.

3 pages you argued over that and was proven wrong and then went silent...

I seriously wonder if you are bi-polar.

Aww you're worried about me, I'm flattered :D Perhaps you could be a good chap and link to the post where you blew this evidence out of the water - I can't find it. Shouldn't be too difficult, it's only five or so pages back, there's a good chap.

Be a lamb and look for yourself in the thread.

I'm not playing your games.
