ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

so where is the military action by the west in Egypt? or against Saudi arabia for the thousands they killed in the arab spring?

or , as I have said - its ok when its `our` dictator....

Why Egypt? they deposed what was essentially a dictator - supposedly had democratic elections and then got rid of someone else that was going down the dictator path and as things stand there is a timeline for a democratic process with supposedly elections in the middle of 2018.

Once again (like a dozen times??) we skip over the point that several of you condone Assad executing thousands of his own. Have you considered a career in politics? Politicians side step issues with BS too.

I haven't seen anyone condone that yet.

But just as a note, the claimed figure of dead between the start of the violent protests and the outbreak of the armed uprising is ~1000 civilians and 150 soldiers and policemen, not thousands.

Why would/should he step down because a tiny amount of people say they dislike him? lol.

Because he's ordered the firing on/bombing that's killed 1000's of his own people.
Because half the country's population have been displaced.
Because over 250k people have been killed since he violently started putting down protests demanding he step down, presiding over a civil war that escalated and spiralled out of control allowing jihadis to run rampant and take huge swathes of territory and spill over into Iraq.
Because the 'elections' he won are a sham. What was it? 88% of the vote. That's pretty good. He's a long way of North Korea's 99.9% but he's getting there.

All because he wouldn't stand aside and cede control back to the people after daddy took it in a bloody coup.

He's a stand up guy.

Citation needed and er yes, your very language suggests you are in favour of Assad slapping down those who oppose him. It's only a tiny amount though right, so it doesn't matter does it? Needs to do what he needs to do, doesn't he?

None of that had happened before the civil war though, which is when we were talking about.

The elections were classed as legitimate by both western observers and even countries opposed to Assad (I.E Qatar). As it's the presidential election you're referring too it was 88% on a 73.5% turnout (65% of voters).

The world is not binary.

Im sure that's my line, numerous times in this thread ;)

Anyhow, like you said, why should Assad step down? You haven't deplored any of his actions, so we'll take it you're a supporter of dictators, fascism and killing your own to overcome opposition. I mean, I would have thought that the suitable answer for a leader would be to enter in discussion on any issue. Oh well!

Well simply put he shouldn't have, every UK/US president for the last quarter century have had more people calling for their resignation yet they didn't either and people were able to show their approval/disapproval via the next election.

People did show their approval/disapproval via the 2012 parliamentary election, the 2014 presidential election, and the 2016 parliamentary elections. The Baath party coalition was re-elected (twice) and Assad was re-elected for a third term.

Firstly I condemned the shooting of protesters back when that happened, I condemned the use of chemical weapons both when the military were accused of using them and when rebels used them.

Secondly I am a supporter of neither of those, but for reference Assad is a democratically elected leader not a dictator, his coalition features communist and socialist parties, no fascists.

Finally, as said above I condemned the deaths of the protesters (and the law enforcement officers) back when that happened (May 2011).

I would have thought that the suitable answer for a leader would be to enter in discussion on any issue. Oh well!
What more do you think he could have done out of interest?

Yeah i mean they that coup wasnt warranted at all considering March 1949 Syrian coup d'état mhm?

The US helped remove a DEMOCRATICALLY elected government in syria before all of this, to think there wouldn't be a reprisal and then hatred after that was foolish.
