ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Looks like Raqqa is going to fall soon.

The SDF seem to be racing to beat the SAA to the capital.

Clashes are currently happening, but i doubt the SAA are going for Raqqa. It looks to me they are just going straight along cutting the SDF from advancing south in the future thus securing all the southern half of Syria for the Syria government.

More like it's going to be a lengthy drawn out guerrilla battle just like Mosul again.

Neither the SDF or SAA can afford an all out war with one another, they're both tied up fighting their common enemy and focusing on Raq and Deiz liberation. There have been some small scale minor clashes between the two but it's not expected to escalate beyond that.

Welp, looks like its officially the case that Muhammad bin Salman will be king in the future, you can bet that the Saudis are gearing for war on larger scale, probably Iran going by his comments.

Gonna be interesting Saudi Arabia has made its move and can't really back down without losing face which they will find hard to swallow, I can't see Egypt following them into the fire but you never know. It doesn't look like Iran will be standing alone. I'll be surprised if we don't see some major shifts in the Middle East possibly major war but possibly by other major political action.

now they've blown up a significant mosque:

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists have blown up the landmark Great Mosque of al-Nuri and its famous leaning minaret in Mosul, the Iraqi army has stated.

The Iraqi army had launched a push, backed by British and American forces, to regain the mosque and surrounding areas from Isil earlier on Wednesday.

"Our forces were advancing toward their targets deep in the Old City and when they got to within 50 yards of the Nuri mosque, Daesh (Isil) committed another historical crime by blowing up the Nuri mosque and the Hadba" mosque, Staff Lieutenant General Abdulamir Yarallah, the overall commander of the Mosul offensive, said in a statement.

The mosque, along with its minaret, was one of the most famous buildings in Mosul's Old City. It was where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Isil leader, declared the creation of the so-called caliphate in a speech in summer 2014.

What the actual?! Ah well, hopefully that'll be more of their support drying up.

They're accusing western forces of blowing it up in an air strike. I'm sure many of the most impressionable will believe that unfortunately.

There may also be a bit of pride involved as well, it's obviously an important building to them (because of the declaration made in it) so they may not have wanted to let it fall into enemy hands.

Such a waste though. :(

You're probably right there. Shame. It was a beautiful building like so many that they've destroyed. And their likes to be hibest. Look what ruin the Taliban brought.

they have already destroyed thousands of treasures of the ancient islamic world...no real suprise

if iraqi or us forces wanted to bomb it they could have done it at any time..why wait until they were virtually in the doors
