ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

To imply that actors are used is so ridiculous
. If you were running such a crazy operation on inciting hatred and starting war, why would you use actors who could simply go public. Real people dying is far easier to explain.

I can't believe the delusional conspiracy theory ********. It makes zero sense.

Try hards, trying to be clever. Most of it is probably marijuana induced rabble anyway. I have a few mates like that. They sit around smoking, talking absolute tripe, but rather than accepting their delusional paranoia is just drug fuelled bobbins, they really believe their own guff even after they've sobered up. What's more worrying though is many people can adopt that mindset without the stimuli of drugs.
Are you young and muslim, by any chance?

No, read above.

On the manpad issue, it's still going to be very difficult for them to be successful with any of that. The tech is all antiquated so prone to failure. They're also going to have to be near the path of a runway. The hand held sams don't have high operating altitudes.

They'd take hostages regardless and with them losing more and more ground daily it can only be a good thing. Dayr Ar Zawr is significant, there is a large SAM installation and other military units based there. ISIL may have over run the facilities and commandeered the equipment.

Intent by the SofS to increase air strikes.

"Now the campaign is moving into a new phase where we aim to systematically dismantle Daesh's [as the Islamic State group is also known] structure and capabilities.
"That means striking harder at the head of the snake, with an increased focus on infrastructure, lines of communication and supply routes"

Until now, coalition bombing has focused on helping Iraqi and Kurdish troops on the ground in Iraq.

He will also call for a significant increase in the level of coalition air strikes.

The meeting comes as government figures show that UK air strikes have risen from a monthly average of 29 between May and October last year to more than 80 in December.

In January the RAF conducted 31 strikes in the first week alone.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) officials say so far there have been no civilian casualties linked to RAF air strikes against IS
.

Increasing effectiveness by adjusting targeting great, but then in the same breath indicating an increase in the number of strikes. How do we do that exactly with already stretched resources and man power? I scoffed when the PM announced all these new 'drones' coming online in future. That's also great, but who will fly them?

Only an increase in defence spending would achieve these aims, surely? Or perhaps fallon is just nudging our other eu counterparts to up their game?

Good to see no civcas still though. Long may it continue.

Believing that sex, "race" or any other unchosen and generally irrelevant biological characteristic defines what a person is, is an irrational prejudice.

Believing that one such group is better than the others and therefore something to be proud of is an irrational prejudice. That is required, since pride requires a belief that whatever a person is proud of is better than the alternatives. It's bizarre to have pride in something you have no choice over and no input into, anyway.

So yes, it's bigotry. It's pretty much the definition of bigotry. It's bigotry on top of bigotry.

It's not. You're confusing matters. I'm proud to be a man, that doesn't mean I think I'm better than a woman. It means I'm just proud of what I am. In this world where it's difficult being whatever you are, it helps to be proud of whatever that may be. That isn't about thinking you're better than anyone, I think instead it just shows you have issues.

As usual the pedantic analysis of words on the internet descends into a meaningless farce.

Of course there is nothing wrong in being proud (ie: taking pride in) something like being a white, british etc

But, when the phrase is being used in a neo-nazi rally, then the inference that can easily be taken on the statement of 'angry, white and proud' is one more of White Supremacy, where the underlying inference is that being white is superior to other races - which there definitely is a problem with that sentiment.

That is what DJ_Jester was talking about, and the people arguing against are just being purposefully obtuse, or that stupid they don't realise words have different meanings in different contexts....

Exactly on point. It's all about context. I think some people don't have any and will take a literal meaning however they want. I think some here also have huge deranged chips on their shoulders. It's quite pathetic.
