Issue with Zotac 3080 amp holo.

A GPU failure doesn't always mean a dead card, it could be unstable VRAM etc.

This,

Use afterburner and downclock the GPU and RAM to the base model frequencies and see if it runs then. Could be a poorly binned 3080 at ZOTAC that cant run at AMP HOLO frequencies and should have been assigned a lower clocked model. PArticularly the 'device_hung message could indicate memory issues.

Drop the core clock down to 1710Mhz and knock off 200mhz off the memory. See if you can recreate the issue with those settings.

TRhe gumpf on the zotac website does express the use of high end HDMI cables. Your current cables may work with your 2070 but become unstable with the 3080. UNstable on DP, have you tried all three DP outputs from GPU and ensured you are using 1.4? - you tried HDMI.

Are you using Zotac firestorm software? If so uninstall it and try it without as in the beginning there were issues with it.

I have the Trinity OC and dont use the Zotac software.

You maybe able to swap it for a different model that's in stock if you don't want to wait on the RMA but yeah give them a call and I'm sure they will go through the options for you.

yeah had a convo with them earlier they have zero stock in so arranged the RMA and they said zotac themselves might be able to sort one faster then they could.

How much did you pay for the 3080 holo ? i would guess around £1300, they have 5 Gigabytes in stock currently so would you not just prefer an exchange like Sean473 says or pay a little more towards a 3080ti for £1500.

You may be waiting a long time for a replacement that is all.

I would call them tomorrow and ask it you can do a swap i don't think it's to late but there is no harm in asking.

ok i shall do. fingers crossed cause for so much if i can get a refund i could at least look elsewhere and not wait (waited a year to get one as it and been steadily upgrading my system to accommodate the beast)so if i can get a replacement or other version of the 3080 delivered from them fast it would be greatly appreciated. at the time or writing this its been 4 days since the order and 3 days since i received the card itself so hopefully well within return time :)

If you have no look then yes i would request a refund as your still within the 14 days.

well i called them and had a word, talked through the issues and stuff and all ive done to make sure the issue isnt something else. they arranged for it to be picked up from my address which was nice. They told me they would send out a replacement as they had a few in stock (im guessing this is stock not available online as i couldn't see any in stock online) so hopefully in a day or so ill have another one and hopefully with no issues....

Good news then and yes i thought they would hold a few back in case of such situations.

Fingers crossed.

yeah if not i guess ill just rip my system apart and rebuild from the ground up haha. A massive thank you tho to yourself and ll others on the thread who gave advice or helped in anyway.I shall keep you's ionfomred as to weather the new card fixed the issue or not. Have a great day all and once again a massive thank you to you all.

well.... Overclockers staff confirmed the card is faulty and agreed to refund. so call them today to confirm erfund and they tell me the card has no serial number on it and as such they wont be able to refund. i of course tell them the whole story, i bought it, it faulted,it says engineers sample etc. they have screenshits of the proof of this but they say without the serial number they cant refund untill they been through zotac which could take a while so i really dont know what to do from here. quite obviously no foul play from me and have all recipts/screenshots etc but yeah. for now im left hanging and waiting for 1200 to be refunded or a broken card sent back to me. either way i feel like im being called a liar or whatever despite having proof of puurchase and witnessed issues.

Did you buy it from OCUK?

well yeah cause from their point of view you could have bought a broken engineer sample somewhere else, kept the card theysent you then 2 days nlater say its broken send them the engineer one back and now you have a card and whatever profit you made from a refund :P

or someone at the distribution side just stuffed it in a box to get the money not caring about who would get lumbered with it

yeah but i mean if the serial number is only on a sticker which most ppl remove and not printed on the board somewhere that is very much a no no but i understand where OC are coming from of course. just its quite obvious i havent really done that and kept them informed of everything every step of the way so hopefully it will get resolved properly otherwise i will have to get trading standards etc invovled as the card was faulty and they aclnowledge that, they had screenshoits of it clearly statingg its a enginerrs sample etc also. guess its just a waiting game. i would say tho i wont be buying Zotac branded anything again after this. the fact a sample card was sold to at 1200 and now its a big issue is kind of disgusting no matter how you look at it

You don't remove serial stickers ever and they also say on them if removed warranty void. Also when you register the card for warranty you need that serial number and the number needs to be the same when and if you have to RMA it.

How was it not obvious when it said engineering sample on it (did you contact OCUK the day you got it and noticed that?). Also the main box for it should have the serial number on it too that should match the serial number on the card.

This all sounds strange to me.. Do you still have the original box it came in and did you send it back in that box ? As there you can check the serial number too and if one there there will be one on the card that matches.

when i fist installed a card i ran super position benchmark. this recognised the card as engineers sample.

when the item was sent back (a day after i recieved it) it was in its orrginal packaging completely. all i had done was install the card, run benchmark and then sent it back after it started to fault.

i would also assume serial number as well being on a tiny sticker would be on box somewhere and on the PCB in the card so i cant see the removal of a little sticker being the reason im unable to get a refund or replacement
