It didnt take them long - Fans fighting.

My god, it really kicked off between the Irish and Swedish fans tonight too. Must be all that history of conflict between celts and Vikings. Disgusting scenes.

edit:

Ah man, just seen they've dragged local French youths into it too...

This is exactly how all fans regardless of country should be. Keep the competitiveness on the field, after the game, have a laugh with the other fans regardless of who won. It's just a game of football FFS.

UEFA haven't got the balls to ban a country from the Euros. Just the same as FIFA don't have the balls to prevent Russia from hosting the next world cup.

Seeing what a small group of Russians can start in France, i think anyone would be absolutely mental to visit Russia for the world cup.

I feel it's massively disgraceful on everyone's part, fighting over a game of football! There's literally no hope for us to get along is there haha.

Best not go to America either then. You will get shot

As already said, you and many other people are missing the point. A lot of the fighting has never or will ever be about the football. The events are just opportunities for thugs to meet up and fight. I imagine many of the protagonists don't even have tickets to games.

Past few days my opinion of the travelling England fans has completely changed, I did think of them as a shameful embarrassment, now I'm seeing them as the victims in all this, clearly targeted and they have a right to defend themselves as the police don't seem to be doing it for them.

Stop blaming ours all the time.

To be fair I don't just blame England football fans for scummy violent behaviour, I blame all of them. That said my chest doesn't exactly swell with pride every time a news article about football riots involving English "supporters" is on the news.

Odd how it's ALWAYS football. Why are violent scum so attracted to a bunch of overpaid fairies chasing a ball around a field? Why doesn't this happen in Rubgy, Tennis, Cricket, or non-ball sports?

It's nothing to do with a little ball.
Football Hooliganism has never been about football, it is just a vehicle where these thugs can get together.
In fact in the 70s/80s a lot of Hooligans never went to watch a match because they were too busy outside somewhere.

Cricket has produced it's fair share of riots associated with sporting events - mostly in India it has to be said.

It's going to kick off on Thursday again without a doubt unless they've massively changed the policing, the England and Russian fans are only 30 miles apart or something for the next games.

Plus there's sod all in Lens and the nearest big city is Lille. I think the threat of the Russian mobs might put most England fans off going there though.

Not sure about Russia kicking off - in their minds they've already beaten England and I've read that they might stay quiet for a bit and wait for Poland vs Ukraine a week today (where they'll be joining up with their brothers from the People's Republic of Donbass to give the Polish 'fascists' a kicking  ). The combination of hooliganism and politics is quite worrying.

Russian hooligans are in a different league entirely. They're mainly well funded ultra-nationalists with a large contingent of ex (and some serving) Russian military personal in the mix for good measure. Whilst hooligans in other countries may kick the living **** out of people and leave it at that, Russia's bunch of cowards think nothing of actively going out with the intention of killing people.

Perhaps the French should just give Putin his Mistral's and ask him to call off the thugs.

No football hooligans are all the same regardless of nationality, colour, creed etc, etc.

Looks like a suspended disqualification for Russia if there's any more violence.

Frankly that's a disgrace, and 150k euros is barely even a slap on the wrist.

I know those on here will say it's not really got anything to do with the football, which i can agree with. But it's hardly like Russia has gone out of its way to prevent its known troublesome citizens from leaving the country.
