It didnt take them long - Fans fighting.

OK, while I think it would be unfair to kick us out, theres more that UEFA could do.

Please explain?

What punishment could UEFA give right now which wouldn't severely aggravate the situation.

If UEFA can do anything it is after the tournament when heads have cooled.

Disqualify the England team i would say. Send them back home as a warning to the fans. Bad behaviour is not acceptable and others would suffer but it would be a tough lesson!

And the Russians and the French who are also involved, although they are the hosts :)

Ah blame the poor, there's enough people with good jobs who go to football every week and have the occasional scrap I promise you

I don't doubt that, but if this tournament was in America for example there wouldn't be as many scumbags.

Let's also not forget there are a large number of Russian and even French fans allegedly starting a lot of this trouble.

Just seen on the news, one guy smashing a chair on the head of another guy! Not sure which side the supporters were though. Disgusting!

Sky news live for the past ten minutes.

Cheers. As someone who has never followed footy, I have no context here.

How bad is this really? Does this happen a lot? I know that hooligans pop up every now and then in the news but are most football tournaments much better than this?

Also, good luck to the French police force. Those poor guys are still coming to terms with a massive terrorist attack and now they've got these brainless idiots to deal with.

They're in a really crap place right now :(

The rest of France will probably disassociate themselves from these Marseille fans. In the same way the Welsh and Scots have already done in this thread.

Has anyone else seen the video which can be seen on Twitter of what looks to be a resident of Marseille getting caught up in the violence? He's doing absolutely nothing and some thug just brutally knocks him out.

The angle it is shot from seems to be next to a group of what look like the local thugs who are causing trouble, so the guy who throws the punch is most likely English or Russian.

I supposed compared to 98, with social media and everyone with cameras, at least more people can technically be prosecuted.

See my edit, was just the first thing that popped in to my mind.

It's a really sad state of affairs but how would you tackle it? Genuine question for anyone btw, I;d really be interested in what a solution could be, given that this behaviour is about as old as the game itself.

Arrest all the people causing trouble, send them home and the UK government revoke their passports for 10 years. The FA ban them from attending any football matches of any sort for 10 years by then they would be old enough that they either have grown up enough or too old to bother starting trouble.

The Russians and French have caused most of the trouble today.

I'm disappointed so many people don't understand this, watch the live streams, 99% of the England fans are there to watch football and have a laugh with their mates. The Russians and French are there for a fight

If I remember correctly haven't we as a country banned large numbers of our "real" football hooligans traveling at all during tournaments in response to how they acted 10/20 years ago ? If so there wont be the large numbers of them heading to France. Instead it will be the Ultras from other countries wanting to attack the "founding fathers" of their real sport ?

yeah load of England fans sat quietly at a bar and Russian fans just waded in ripped down flags and started violence.

The French started the trouble.... the English fought back, then the Russians came in and wrecked everyone with the police unable to intervene.

How the English are being portrayed as the bad guys in all this is beyond me.

I've seen lots of footage of all this from people there right now to make my own judgement. This is nothing like the England fans at past tournaments.

This all seems a little odd if you think about it. We haven't seen this kind of thing from England fans for many years. There have been small incidents but nothing like this. I've seen reports stating that witnesses have seen gangs of Russians wandering around looking for English fans to attack. Also more reports stating Russian Ultras threatened there would be violence before the tournament started.

Seems to me like the Russian fans started all this and English fans have retaliated, but at the same time clashing with the Police. Making them look like they started it all.

Don't get me wrong, the England fans bring it on themselves, but I do think they've been antagonised into it.

They're fighting a losing battle against those Ruski's though.

I don't really follow it myself, just what i am watching on various news and websites. It's a disgrace though.
