Italian Grand Prix 2010, Monza Circuit - Race 14/19

He is in front because of the .8 of a second quicker change in the pits. Otherwise it would have been business as usual.

Yeah thats why Alonso has dropped Button. Alonso knew exactly what he was doing. If he could have dropped alonso he would have.

Exactly the same thing would have happened if Button and Alonso were in each others cars just now.

Still, second place is a nice result for Button.

Well Alonso wouldn't have been silly enough to choose that setup so the point is moot.

He has the faster car, course he is & was always going to drop button if he got in front. But the fact remains he was unable to for more than half the race until he gained the advantage in the pit stop.

They really wouldn't. I love button but he's nowhere near the all round class of Alonso.

Go back and watch some previous races, in particular last year. You'll see numerous times when Button played the waiting game to get past other cars and then put in the fast laps when needed.
I'm not saying Button is a better driver than Alonso. But I don't think you're given Jenson the credit he deserves.

Told ya, thats why Alonso is the best driver in F1.

Yep. Fair enough.

Alonso perhaps realised that he wouldn't be able to overtake Button on the track and so waited for the pitstops. He knew exactly how/where to best overtake Button.

Alonso is now the guy who is cruising, where he is managing his fuel, tyres and pace.

He has 7 engines to still use, and can use any of them, he just can't use a new one.

He certainly hasn't got 7.

He's destroyed 1 of them.
1 was replaced after qualifying and can now only be used during free practice sessions and at the Abu Dhabi race
The other ones are dependent on remaining engine life as they can't be rebuilt, and Ferrari have already admitted that they have run some past their expected life.

So he's not a god of a driver then or he would have passed on track? :)

Pit stop pass = lame and relying on your team to do the work :/

Nope. F1 doesnt work that way.

MSc used to do a lot of his overtaking in the pits. MSc realised that this was the easiest method to overtake and understood this better than any other F1 driver. This didnt make MSc a bad driver...just the best.

Don't get me wrong Button did extremely well today. This would rank as one of his best dry race drives ever as he held of Alonso for so many laps, making virtually no errors, while going very fast. The problem for Button was that it was Alonso behind him and not a lesser driver.
