Italian Grand Prix 2011, Monza Circuit - Race 13/19

I think someone on the show said that if Vettel wins at Singapore, Alonso must come at least third or, failing that, Button/Webber must come at least second. I haven't done the maths to check for myself, though.

Yep, it is mathematically possible. Would be a very early win. Wouldn't he have won already if we had Bernie's medal system?

I honestly on reflection do not think Jenson waited. My reasons for this are when MS and Lewis started going hammer and tongs Jenson couldn't match their pace.

That's your opinion but you do realise you saying Button is one of the slowest drivers on the grid, because except some rookies / pay drivers nobody is a second a lap slower than their team mate. That's how much the Mercedes was holding up the Mclaren at that stage of the race (high fuel load)

IMO the main reason that Jenson got past MSC so easily was simply the surprise factor. Having just pushed Hamilton onto the grass Shumacher would not have been expecting another McLaren to be right on him on the next corner.

This is to Jenson's credit - he knew there would be an advantage going at him quickly - but I'm 100% he would not have found it so easy the following lap.

Personally I'm loving Button's form. I've always liked him and wanted to him to do well but I began to think he wasn't quite good enough. His recent drives have definitely put that to rest. Button and Vettel have driven better than anyone else this season IMO.

Completely agree. If only Button could get it right on a Saturday as well.

team radio from schumachers car has been leaked
"Engineer: Michael, we're concerned you might get a penalty for blocking.

Michael: Why?

Engineer: Because Race Control just warned us you were blocking.

Michael: Blocking? Why - it's my own team-mate?

Engineer: No, it's Hamilton. That yellow helmet is Hamilton not Nico.

Michael: Oh (pause) I can't see anything in my mirrors.

Engineer: Are the mirrors broken?

Michael: No, somebody has stuck a nice photo of Kobayashi in the left mirror and Petrov in the right mirror.

Engineer: Can you repeat that?

Michael: Only joking - hang on a second, we're coming up to Ascari ...Yes! And again he fails to take The Schum! Get in there mein Sohn!

Engineer: Michael, you have to stop blocking.

Michael: We are having a nice battle.

Engineer: Charlie doesn't see it that way.

Michael: You know I wonder if I can get him onto the grass this lap...

Engineer: If you don't stop blocking I'm going to get Ross.

Michael: Not listening!

Ross: Michael, this is Ross. You have to leave room for Lewis at Ascari

Michael: There is plenty of room.

Ross: You need to leave a car's width of tarmac, not just a car's width between yours and the barrier.

Michael: This really is a nice lot of fun.

Ross: Michael, you have to leave Lewis room, if you collide-

Michael: He'll get the blame. He always gets the blame for everything. It won't be a problem.

Ross: We had enough trouble with Rubens last year.

Michael: Schum, Schum, Schum Schum, Schuuuuuuuuuum!

Ross: If you don't move over I'll tell people about 1994.

Michael: Er...you know, I think my tyres are going off.
btw 11 mins of onboard

Pitting 2 laps before the time Hamilton actually did would not have put Hamilton in a bad position, with regards to overall race strategy. Doing this would not have required an extra pit stop.

In future you might try casting your memory back a day or so and realising that Hamilton was due to pit 2 laps earlier, but stayed out when Schumacher pitted that lap.

It might make it appear slightly more like you both know what you're talking about and that you're here for anything more than disagreeing with people.

It also might help if you didn't say completely contradictory things from one race weekend to the next...

kthxbye.

watching some of those onboards makes it even worse for Lewis as Button just managed the pass so much easier...he was nowhere near with his passes right up to the one he managed to make it stick. Yes Schuey made it difficult but why couldn't Hamilton nail him? Very poor performance now I've seen even more of it.

the mercedes gets such good traction out of corners.

i think any other track and schui's tires would have been done after a few laps battling like that, but as it was monza and the low wear rate he could go longer.

great to watch though.

The Mercedes really has become a beast off the start and on the first lap - they are very good at getting heat into the tyres. Problem is, they then degrade very quickly and they lose places. Still, keeps things interesting :)

but schumachers tyres started going off towards the end of nthat battle as you could tell from how much closer hamiltin was bale to get at some points of the circuit, by time button got there the tyres were pretty much finished making it a fairly easy pass compared to what hamilton had to put up with.

button also has the luxury of slowling closing in on the battle saving his tyres where as hamilton had little choice other than to go for it and try to make a pass stick.

its a pitty though as if hamilton wouldnt have pressured schumacher they probably would have managed to overtake alonso, if you didnt notice schumacher and hamilton at the early part were catching alonso up to the point where schumacher tried to make a move on alonso but once hamilton put schumacher under a lot of pressure forcing him to drive defensise alonso started to disapear back off into the distance again
