Italian Grand Prix 2012, Monza - Race 13/20

He was over 0.8seconds down after sector 2.... the third sector meant nothing. He hasn't been that mighty in sector three, it was more everyone else sucking in sector three, except, Hamilton didn't, Button was like a half second down on people in S3 this morning but not in quali.

Alonso's best S3 time was 0.05seconds faster than Hamilton, everyone relevant pretty much was within 2 tenths absolute max, and that is starting from a good S2, a poor S2 and you're starting S3 badly, not a chance in hell he could pull back even 2 tenths at best. It was completely over before sector 2 ended.

LOL what, how can you say S3 meant nothing when it can be the difference from 10th to 7th or something? Ok so he was not mighty in sector 3 it was others that sucked in S3 LOL. I guess we can say Lewis pole lap was not all that good, just others sucked?

Now people might believe me, there is no way Alonso will win this title. His car just isn't fast enough and once he's had a spell of bad luck and the others are back on his tail he won't have a car fast enough to do damage.

A Button Hamilton crash on the first lap will be excellent just to see this forum argue about it until November. ;)

The car was fast enough today to challenge for pole? Ferrari has big update for Singapore they are not stopping.

Yes I'm talking about their dry pace in general, this is hardly the most technical track in the dry. Here he's just going to lose have some of his lead eaten into by one car or another. It's at the mid to higher downforce circuits they are going to be clinging on against the mclarens and red bulls.

Pure damage limitation at this circuit now and it doesn't have the dry pace to extend the lead under normal circumstances.

Everyone is building and working on updates.

Oh I agree Ferrari has a lot of work to do but today they should have been taking full advantage, but still if the car is good tomorrow then Alonso should still be scoring big points and podium possible.

Fry has said Singapore should be more of a clearer picture for them when they bring what they have.

A podium from 10th might be possible, if he's not starting from the pits? Especially if they can use Massa to slow the pack. Always makes me nervous when a driver is starting in the pack though :D

I wouldn't be surprised if they start him from the pits anyway. Keep him out of any potential issues in turn 1, stick him on the hard tyres which he will will easily pass half the field with, and then he will be on soft tyres at the end of the race when the others are on hards.

It would also allow them to fully go over the whole car to ensure its all tip top.

Alonso has new gearbox anyway after DNF in Spa you can change it with no penalty. They said it's the rear anti-roll bar that broke, and off course the 3rd sector means something, he has been mighty quick in S3 all weekend and to be so far off the pace in there says something is pretty wrong. If you watched his interview you would have seen him say they hoped to maybe get a bit better than 10th so off course was pushing.

sorry - Ferrari couldnt change anything at all now without a penalty of some kind (as the fault was found during quali/after parc ferme rules have been applied)

Of course the new box was fitted without a penalty pre -qualifying but if thats faulty for what ever reason, he would get a penalty (vor another change)

Im guessing they cant fit a new ant-roll bar before the race (without starting from the pitlane or another penalty?).

Would you trust Massa to slow the pack down currently (and not allow a few cars through) , however good he did in a single one of lap for quali, its completely different in the pressure of instantly made decisions in the race. I would be surprised if Massa could hold up anyone for long (esp if Merc have their double drs working).

Just a general point not against Alonso or anything - but its stupid to have "parc ferme" rules and yet allow teams to change certain componants without penalty (Im pretty sure this has happened before , but its still daft). Either have parc ferme or dont

Not really the case..

We're not talking about an engine or gearbox failure, It's a rear anti-roll bar that is broken.

You can replace parts in parc ferme under FIA supervision.

In the quote I posted he was talking about another gearbox. :)

Was pretty close no? Massa being 3rd says a lot.

Very close indeed, but Im not sure anyone can say one way or the other with the McLaren's being 1-2 on the grid - or even 2 & 3 IF Alonso had got pole.

You can change the gearbox for free if you do not finish the previous race. Which is what I said Alonso has a new gearbox here and no penalty for changing it due to DNF in Spa, they can probably change the roll bar without penalty as well.

confusing reading the rules of what is and not allowed to be changed in parc ferme under FIA supervision, but since Red Bull can adjust ride height then I guess it should be ok to change it over :D
