Italian Grand Prix 2013, Monza - Race 12/19

Mercedes are saying that Lewis damaged the floor of the car from a kerb he hit. Under Parc Ferme rules can they repair this damage or are they stuck with the floor in the condition it is?

Damaged parts can be repaired (so long as they can be proven damaged and are replaced with a identical part).

But I'd be more worried about his post-qualifying attitude than his floor. He sounded like he was about to top himself.

Media gag on a guy who is known to be a bit of a sulk, so not really surprising.

But hey, he could have publicly called him team stupid in front of his bosses :p

From Twitter:
@NobleF1: Caught up in an amusing press scrum with Luca di Montezemolo just now. He shouted at Alonso to ask if he was driving for Marussia next year

What would be funny if Fred replied "I've already got their car" or something and then the two started slapping each other.

Meh, while i think he should certainly get a penalty, the problem is it screws the other driver and there is no way to "fix" that. I mean imagine he did that in the final race of the year and Hamilton was 5 points behind Vettel... instead of competing for pole he ends up outside the top 10.

I'd be as bummed as Hamilton, considering his points situation the only way to really have any chance would be(aside from a good rest of the season) a good finish above Vettel here.

It's pretty harsh to have a pole capable car and driver and have some **** completely screw up two entire laps by blocking at the most crucial point. Will basically take a miracle, I can see him doing well in the race, but can also see him pushing too hard/being caught in traffic and ending up crashing out as a result. This is where seasons go downhill, you get a bit of bad luck, you have to push harder to have any chance and ANY driver who pushes harder will make more mistakes and have more crashes/contact.

Generally speaking I think Alonso has been driving less well this season and the only real threat over the length of a season would be Hamilton IF Merc could improve the car in race pace throughout the season which they have been doing.... but not enough. Even if Hamilton poled and managed a win here I wouldn't bet against Vettel winning the title again... but keeping it closer and with some appearance of a competition later into the season would keep things more interesting.

No thats just lewis. A spoilt miserable wretch at times...

He kinda did call them out for employing him for such vast sums, then "driving like an idiot". :p

I see the girls got together on a Saturday night again bitching :D

Couldn't agree more. I saw Lewis's post qualifying remarks and I was very impressed with him. I saw a very honest young man saying 'Hey, my bad, I drove like an idiot'. Quite refreshing to own up to your own mistakes I thought and something we should see more of in sport in general.

Others though saw the exact same thing that I saw, and yet they conclude that Lewis is a spoilt miserable wretch, a sulk blah blah blah.

I guess when you view a persons comments through the lens of contempt, your opinions become distorted and off kilter.

Alonso was a tit but I imagine it must get a bit galling to lose title after title to someone you know you would beat in the same machinery. Even MS didn't have to put up with that for as many years against the same driver and the car/team was much more competitive.

What I really want to see is Vettel go through 5 or so years in a struggling team without newey, because then you will really see fireworks, fallout and whinging to make the rest look amateur.

Agree

We saved you a seat and an Appletini, but you never showed :(.

Sorry I don't do sleep overs with guys :)

He is too hard on himself sometimes.

Agree but that's what great F1 racers do. I wonder what tires he will go with today?
The car is fixed so that's good news :) just hope for a good start and to get round the first bend ok.
