I don't think that's wholly accurate. The Government were putting pressure on the Police to stop the XR protests and the police, quite rightly, said they didn't have the powers to effectively do what the Government was asking. There are two ways of approaching this though, increasing powers is one, but also having the Government accepting the disruption is another.
 
Protest bill aside, this is the world we live in now. Certain groups of individuals hell bent on a riot irrespective of the cause.

Theres a staggering disrespect for policing, mostly by the people who would be first to call them in the event of any unusual disturbance to their daily lives.

Kinda not surprised though, this lockdown is pretty damn tedious now, some people probably venting.
 
I'm sure the Bristol police will be back out in force tomorrow arresting pensioners for having a socially distanced cup of tea in the garden with a friend.

ofc but have you seen Portland lately? Like rioting for almost a year..... probably not many right wingers trying to burn down the federal courthouse.

My point exactly, look at the idiots doing it, I bet none of them have even looked at the bill, just their pals opinions on Facebook. Lock them all up.

Theres a time and a place for real protest and this isnt it.

I'd love to know how Andy Ngô has concluded:

- they're all far left
- they've taken over a police station from the outside
- bristol is the 'portland' of the UK
- they're linked to BLM and ER because they handed out fliers for the event

Apparently they're just sitting inside the building watching as the windows are smashed in and vehicles torched. Can't say I blame them though if they lift a finger they'll be accused of being heavy handed and the chief facing calls to resign...

Its just an excuse for thuggery. Used to know someone like that used to go to football matches not for the game but for the chance of "a good old punch up" afterwards.

Doubt most of them know anything about any bill, just an excuse for some mindless mayhem. Police should kettle them for the next 12 hours, then cart the lot off to a quarantine area for a couple of weeks in case any of them have Covid.
And yes, I don't agree with the bill either.
 
Peaceful and legitimate protests appear to frequently get highjacked by nutters.

I used to go to the odd protest when I was younger - but would never want to go near any of them these days.

I bet none of this lot smashing windows and burning vans give two ***** about the proposed bill
