It’s all kicking off in Bristol

The only way I can rationalise the situation is that the state has made itself unworthy of civility over recent scandals, particularly the bill, but it doesn't help that the police will be getting tarred with the generalists brush over Everards murder and then there's just the feeling that the country is heading down a dark path.

Of course the fact that it tends to be antifa and company that invariably respond to such a situation, then folks that have paid far too much attention to the US (every political persuasion) will already have their minds made up, which is fair considering the imagery invoked, not so fair is the autopilot towards our liberal democracy's doom.

If you make peaceful protest illegal, expect violence.

That's my thinking- if protesting peacefully is illegal then those who feel motivated enough to break that in protest might as well go the extra mile- in for a penny and all that.

Tricky one really- on the surface at least its a good cause to shout about, but very poorly executed in this instance, although no doubt lockdown tensions havent helped people's moods.

I have no doubt that nothing is actually gained from violence and that it works for authoritarians as they can justify their actions, so it ends up being counter-productive... though I would say that for some, they actually want fascism around so that they can justify their existence.

Ironically, I would say that a peaceful protest is now far more powerful insofar that the states use of violence makes people martyrs, but then again we live in an age of manipulative forces and so knowing whether one's perception of events are even real is a difficult task. It also unfortunately gives the state more power to infiltrate any peaceful protest and turn it violent, thereby justifying action against protests in general and creating a situation where the public is never able to inform themselves because they'd rather take the easy explanation that protests only involve 'other side' extremists.

My suspicion is that the country is much too divided to avoid what's coming.

It's just a continuation of the BLM "protests", same extreme left using any excuse to cause chaos, they'll hijack any cause if it suits them, they're shameless. Police used a soft touch then and now they're paying for it.

Bristol is an odd place, a relative of mine made the news when he decided to do yoga naked on top of a police car, it was quite 'popular' at the time. He jumped off the bridge years later, pretty tragic tale all in all but I know he found comfort with the 'down and outs' he lived with.

From my experience of Bristol, what I can honestly say is that it is a hot bed of anti establishment, anti authority persons and disenfranchised individuals. It has been progressively getting worse in recent years. In my opinion it is also not helped by the woke approach of Avon and Somerset police in general, there has been a lot of cases where they have not acted in line with what is expected of them as an independent police service but also the pubic responses from the Police and Crime Commissioner haven't helped, which is a role that is heavily politicised and has done a lot of damage and added fuel to this and many other fires, it's as if to almost legitimise such action.

I know in this day and age you need to be careful with making assumptions, and that's correct! However from viewing the video that has been posted just look; there are many people holding cider cans / 2L bottles of cider and there is a lot of people who are wearing clothing which you'd associate with alternative lives such as hippies etc. Do you honestly believe these individuals are here for the purpose of the protect? I know it's not a smoking gun, but surly people should be able to understand that if "it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck." I love Bristol, but it's honestly a hot bed of degeneration that I don't think the politicians or police even begin to understand local power plays.

Ok, Beavis, uhhh, simmer down.

Other side of the road across from the police station is my old student accommodation, it was always eventful around there but this protest would've been a sight to see

it's to do with the real pressing issue in Bristol. The war of the wraps.

Nitefly, wrongly, thinks that Taka Taka is the better wrapper but in my, correct, opinion I believe that Shake Wrap and Roll is the superior wrap

Taka Taka is most definitely the premier gyros provider in Bristol, large pork gyros with halloumi is unrivalled

How would you have handled the BLM protests given the resources available nationally.

It’s really easy to criticise the police and their decisions that day, but the reality is it was a fantastic out come.

Resource wise the government has cut the police to absolute shreds. They did not have the officers on duty to handle any escalation.

Tonight showed that. The officers could not defend a police station and officers were bought in from other forces outside to help, which took time and resources away from every day policing.

These people were in breach of lockdown laws, so why did the police not get stuck in and arrest everyone they could? Hell, kettle the ***** and keep 'em there until every last one has been processed. Or are they scared to the job they're paid to do if it's more dangerous than a couple from different households going out to the countryside for a picnic or some poor sod who drives out to the countryside for exercise in the clean air instead of jogging/cycling around a city?

Because apparently, doing anything other than asking nicely for the protesters to stop is called 'police violence' now.

I think a lot of people, especially on here, believe the police should be like Hooks off Police Academy.
