It's funny how (fuel shortages)

I just hope it eases off by Monday next week, when I'm due to drive 206 miles to see the misses who hasn't been able to return home following a stoke last year. Don't get to see her as much I'd like due to the distance, but were finally in a position where she can start thinking about a move back home.

Panic buying IMO for fuel is when see people fill up with less than 10 litres for a normal size car and 20 litres for cars with tanks with 50l+ capacity. When you pull up to a pump, the display shows how much fuel was fed into previous vehicle and price.

Anyone who still fills £10 are imo, fools. Esp when they can afford to fill up more. As It will get you 7-7.5l. When I first got a car in 2004 fuel was about 87p a litre. A tenner's worth back then was just under 11.5 litres, 55% more than today.

Always have filled up to the brim, even when I was unemployed.
Why are they fools for taking what they need?

An extra 30L in the tank all the time (if running from 50% to full all the time, versus 5% to 50% say) is just another 30kg of load to carry.

I put in £20 which is about half a tank of premium, and it lasts me a couple of months. People can use what they need. Topping up your last few litres constantly though, that's what's unnecessary.

Some people carry so much crap in their cars!

Be shocked if this is an issue by next week.
There's pretty much a fixed capacity to horde fuel. The size of the UK's fuel tanks.

These people (fools) filling up when they normally wouldn't must all be satisfied by now

I've still got two cars that are nearly empty, don't under estimate the demand that is still out there. I'll be filling them both up when there is actually some fuel in my area and the queues aren't nuts.

Indeed, back in lockdown when I was only in the office once a week at most I didn't bother brimming the tank as it's just money sat there doing nothing. Now I'm back in most of the week I'll empty a tank in less than 7 days so cram in as much as possible.

It will be, supply is simply not getting through and by next week many who filled up last week will be needing to fill up again.

Supply is getting through know.

Ive been past 3 open garages on way to work (one is a 24/7) this week by night time they are closed, next day they are all open again, supply is not the problem.

Supply was never the issue to start with, garages have a set schedule for when deliveries come, they know exactly how much fuel they sell on any given day, but the second people started to panic buy those figures became useless and stations were selling through upwards of 50,000 litres of fuel in a matter of hours/days instead of the usual weeks/months. I suspect rural areas, like towns/villages will be just fine, but metropolitan locations like London, Birmingham etc will all have issues for some time due to the population density.

I needed a car with a tow bar and it had a near empty tank, so I took it into Whitchurch to get something, the two main garages on the way into town were open, no queues, no fuel limit.

Yeah it's not supply far as I can tell. Its demand.
Most of those who filled up with unexpected demand probably don't use thier cars much.

So they probably are fine now. There has to be a reduction in demand soon because all this. Demand surge is completely artificial

Anecdotally around my way the local tesco is now more regularly with than without fuel. So it's already improving

Not here, all 4 in this town are out. One hasnt had supply for days now.

Supply has always been getting through around where I live, at least for the most part, just people's insane activity resulting in it going within 2-2.5 hours.

Haven't heard what it is like today or ventured out yet.

My Saab has a 70ltr tank and the warning light comes on with 10ltrs remaining. If I brim and then refuel once the light has come on the average amount of fuel in the tank 40ltrs. If I only refuel to half tank once the light has come on then the average in the tank is 22.5ltrs.

18ltrs of fuel weighs around 15kg. I'm not really bothered by carting that amount of extra around in a vehicle that weighs over 1600kg.
