It's snowing

I envy you being there in the Winter, we visited a long time ago while it was still Czechoslovakia but it was mid august while we were and temps were around 37C ish. It was a good holiday but i think i'd have much preferred to visit during the winter as it would have fit my perception of the country more.

Our hotel was in Bruno so it was rickety train rides into the capital, they were an experience on their own :p
I'd have liked to visit way back when it was Czechoslovakia, I have a few expat friends who have lived here since the mid 90s and they say lots has changed even since then. If you do visit in winter it's amazing as the city is even more beautiful (I think so anyway).

im currently in over 2 feet of snow, almost 3 feet now - rural northern Scotland.

I haven't been to work since December 22nd - 2 weeks off for the hols and so far 4 days off snowed in.

I have icicles on on my top window ledge that are now bigger than the windows themselves, the gutter pipes are encased in about 3 inches of solid ice, looks really cool though because during the day when the sun hits them you see water and air bubbling inside the ice case running down the outside of the pipe.

here's some pics of my dogs, not sure if you can make out the tunnels that they make, instead of them all struggling in the snow, they all walk in a line creating like a tunnel track, also the snow doesn't look as deep as it is because the dogs don't break the lower levels of compacted ice snow that they have already walked on over the previous weeks, when i walk on it usually breaks and i fall almost up to my waist.... if you can see the fence beside the dogs that's a 3 foot high fence, or what you can see of it... and my dogs are pretty much level with it.

here's the pics.

the dog closest to me doesnt leave your side, when you walk she will walk right behind you in the tunnel catching your feet... she has tripped me a couple of times!

3foot high fence!

dog on the righ ventured off the tunnel, that her just breaching the snow for air as she acts like a dolphin!

i hope it stays like this for ever.

ill try and get up early tomorrow for pictures just as day breaks, hopefully get the icicles and the pipe encased in ice before the sun hits.

I've been trying to take pictures the past couple of days but everytime i go out it starts snowing and i'm obviously worried about it getting into my camera.

its getting thick on the ground now, but most of my Sky chanels have gone off too :(

someone's probably already posted this, but if your sky fails to receive a signal in this weather its probably just thick snow laying on your dish, just go out with a broom or some other long device and if you can reach you dish, carefully knock off any snow.

i've had to do this a heap of times so far.

that taken today?

larger one by any chance?

that looks quite cool. i'm suprised anyones having trouble getting to work though, I mean come on its clearly just a cm of snow.

:p

So am I, especially here. The local evening news showed nearly empty tubes running in the rush hour, they all stayed at home. You would have thought that London was covered by a foot of snow.

Walked into work and back again today, ****ing lethal pavements so walked on the road most the way but still ended up on my arse!

I want more snow a) because it'll be easier to walk to work on tomorrow than this compacted stuff/ice and b) because I want to go sledging at the weekend! Sledging in the dark after a day in the office isn't as fun :(.

There's been a gas explosion in Bristol today though, so the main London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads railway line is shut for 24hrs and they're having to divert onto a different line at Swindon which doesn't go through Bath... no trains between Paddington/Bath tomorrow and nothing to Bristol from Bath tonight either  loads of work live in Bristol and the bus services today started when they felt like it and were ending when they felt like it .
