It's snowing

I was in stocholm last week and it was -15c and snowing :) yet people gone about there business fine?

Buses ran? People walking , planes arriving and shock horror people even cycling!

Because it's not unusual to have snow in Stockholm.

Buses, lorries and cars tend to have summer tyres on them in the UK which are terrible in snow.

Have they abandoned the "gender equal snow clearing policy" then? I heard that caused absolute chaos in Sweden when they had their first snows last year.

Forecast for me is all over the shot depending on what site you check. I'm not far from the Scottish Borders and I'm a bit higher up than Edinburgh and the surroundings at 150 meters above sea level.

It was fun last year for a few days as well, got a gritting station a mile up the A7 from the house and the road was a disaster lol. It took me 25 minutes to reach my front door on the last mile due to traffic queuing back past my road end due to a crash about 5 miles down the road.

You mean for the possible chance we might get a day of snow? Where do we store all these spare wheels/tyres in our tiny UK houses?

Why not buy all seasons then?

Also worth pointing out that winter tyres are not just for snow. They are beneficial in temperatures below 7 degrees, which means they are better at stopping than normal tyres for around four months a year, in the south, longer in the north.

Not to mention the cost.

Only extra costs are the rims, which is fairly minimal over the lifetime of their use. You're not using your other pair when using the winter ones so they get a corresponding increase in use out of those.

Doesn't seem like it's cold enough in general in the UK for decent wintery weather. I wonder if it'll ever be like the middle ages again, with the Thames freezing over. Surely this is a cyclical thing to some extent, it's just that the cycles are over a very long time.
