Please talk sense mate, you sound like a nutcase
There's a perfectly good reason for that.

Why does the MET feel they need to be relevant?, they are always relevant for weather lol.
He is one? There's a perfectly good reason for that.
Got the futon mattress set up in the basement mancave, where it's a lovely 12 degrees. May even need the jimjams.![]()
Arnt we recording our highest temps everywhere?Government organisation, it's in their interest to create a sense their work is invaluable so they aren't subject to any sort of funding scrutiny, that would be my theory anyway.
Overstating the warm weather we have at present as an 'extreme' event is surely misleading and inaccurate.
Being probably 75% not serious - I can't tell if I'm suffering from the heat or COVID :s I'm sweating buckets (not feverish though), throat dry and tight, everything tastes like cardboard though I can still sense flavours and smell is fine and my head has a dull tired kind of ache.
Is it a cave? Lol. Caves keep a constant temperature of around 12c

My understanding is that gas is still far cheaper for heating. If by housing regulations you mean building standards, then no. If somebody wants air conditioning it's not exactly hard to fit into an existing building. If it was a building standard you would have to decide what rooms got it, or whether it was the whole house like central heating then it would get ridiculously expensive.
Most people in this country have this perception though that it's not worth it and they'll just suffer through the odd few days of hot weather.
However most of those same people probably don't understand that an air conditioner can also be used as an air source heat pump in the winter.
Don’t you love early morning starts. 16/17c first thing here![]()
Every time we have a week like this I think “Right, get aircon!”, but, in reality we slept ok with a fan on last night, and downstairs is comfortable.
If I lived south of Watford Gap, I’d have had AC years ago, but in the North, I still don’t think it would get more than a few weeks use a year.
I don’t know much about reversible heat-pump systems, but presumably you get cooling as well as heating. May be the way forward.
You might find there's some movement after 2030 when gas boilers are banned from residential new builds. Developers could turn to turn to AS heat pumps which can be turned over in the summer. It won't be legislated though, Part J of the building Regulations will simply outlaw gas boilers, other options than AS heat pumps are available so you would only see them on certain, probably high end developments. Are housing regulations ever going to updated to include air conditioning I wonder?
Likely not.
