The Italian island of Sicily may have registered the hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe - 48.8C (119.8F).
Regional authorities reported the reading, which needs to be verified by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), near Syracuse on Wednesday.
According to the WMO, the current official record in Europe is 48C, registered in Athens, Greece, in 1977.
The latest heatwave in Italy is being caused by an anticyclone - nicknamed Lucifer - moving up from Africa.
Are you referring to yours truly?Blame rob - whenever I take an interest in the weather over summer it goes to ****.
Aside from that 1 week it has been one of the worst I can remember for just miserable weather - if it isn't wet and miserable it is this weird humid dead stagnant air where the slightest physical exertion leaves you feeling yuck.

I wonder how long it will be before we start recording such heat
Its heading towards france, spain and portugal. At some point its bound to push its way our direction this month. Just watching the wildfires on TV in greece right now its terrifying. Its kicking off in Algeria too now. Sardinias declared a state of emergency iirc
I wonder how long it will be before we start recording such heat
Question for anyone that has a wall mounted air conditioner installed. Does your humidity in your room go up if you have it running in fan only mode?
Also what sort of humidity range do you see in the room where you have the wall mounted unit installed?
I am wondering if my unit may have a drainage issue as I would not expect such a sudden increase in humidity.
If i switch it to fan mode having previously used it in air con mode or dehumidifier mode, It can increase humidity in the room as much as 15-20% in 5-10 minutes.
Measuring with a humidity meter.
I'm measuring on a different sensor in the room. Are you measuring the humidity on the air conditioner or a separate sensor elsewhere in the room? After running the A/C and switching to fan mode I would expect the sensor on the A/C to read higher as likely they'll be some condensate left over.
If you're measuring on a different sensor elsewhere, yes that seems like quite a massive jump in only 10 minutes.
It'll improve the second the kids go back to school in September. I would happily put them all through summer camps if it meant we got better weather.Another weekend. Another miserable one.
Another week without summer.
August you suck!
22c sunny intervals here, just about perfect.
I’m glad for you, but I’d prefer 25c up until late November, then after my birthday, (day after Thanksgiving this year),
it can go down to 21c for a month, but no lower.
With any luck it'll be freezing cold and hopefully some snow by late November![]()
