It's too hot :(

Barely slept last night and it's going to be even hotter tonight.

In the office today feeling grim and decided to wear shorts, maybe I'll get sent home, not sure if that's a good or a bad thing office has got air con

Stuck at a crawl on the M25 due to some selfish person crashing, getting warmer and warmer. Great start to Monday!!

0800 and my living room was showing 26.8c.

Currently miserable, we've got a newborn (10 days old) and really struggling in the evenings.

I used to love this weather :p

Getting warmer already. I think last night was the first time our bedroom air con unit stayed on most of the night. It usually cools down and switches itself off pretty early on. Looks like we have much hotter days ahead.

We’re hotter than a lot of countries abroad currently, just checked out some Canary Islands for example. Next weekend looks even hotter.

Both bins were emptied before 6:45am. Very sensible from the council. Get more bins emptied before the heat kicks in.

I bet there’s a couple of moans on the FB Spotted groups. I was up anyway. As the schools broke up Thursday/Friday.

Would love to see the moaners outside in the heat later on.

Haha, the same happens here, quite a few collections happen overnight. Very sensible, although the usual Karen’s moan about it on social media. I live in an area where none of the women work, so they have plenty of time to moan on social media about the most hilariously pathetic things.

Had my portable for 10 years until recently getting ac fitted. The portable did an absolutely sterling job really, it struggled a bit when it got really hot, but it still knocked the temp down enough to make a real difference. The biggest downside to them is how inefficient they are. I'm finding having split AC on all day downstairs and night upstairs is using barely any more electricity than the portable just overnight.

I ought to get the portable up for sale while demand is high I guess though :D
Split A/C is definitely the way to go if you have the money and a place where it can be installed. Due to our 50cm thick stone walls, when we have the money to do so, we’ll have a larger system installed serving both bedrooms and the main living area.

The upfront cost is quite a lot, but for me it’s worth every penny and the longer you have it the more value you get I figure. It’s cheap to run once installed. It cost us no more than £55 to cool the whole house all of last year.

We have multisplit to kitchen, lounge, main bedroom and then the remaining bedrooms/gaming room on their own systems.

I think the usage this July is going to far exceed last July/august.

In this weather, it's worth it.

A couple of quid a day to knock 10c off your indoor temperatures, well worth it.

If ours ever packs in i'm picking up another without question.

Running our Delonghi 10,500 BTU/h one is costing us about €0.90 a night to cool our bedroom. We’re lucky that the main South facing wall of our bedroom is shielded from directly sunlight by our balcony roof, but it’ll be 24-25°C in there when we go to bed at 11pm. Outside temp doesn’t drop to the low 20s until 6-7am, so there’s no opening a window to get any cooler air at night.

A/C vents out of the balcon window and we have the East facing window slightly ajar at night with the shutters pulled up so we do get some fresh air being pulled into the room as recommended in the A/C manual.

Local Facebook groups. Sometimes I despair at the comments I see. Always someone having a moan!

Girlfriend in other room was having a moan about the heat. Told her it's lovely! Deal with it!

Totally agree. We’re looking at the thick end of €10K to have a full split A/C system installed and there’s other parts of the house that need fixing first. Getting the portable A/C for €450 last summer didn’t take a lot of thinking about.

According to AccuWeather, today’s forecast is 36°/18° with the normal/average for this date being 26°/15° and last year on this date being 29°/13°.

The forecast for August is 27°-31°, so July could well be the hottest month this year in SW France.

Some here never get out of their fluffy dressing gowns - even in this heat.

If you have rooms with south facing windows, you could try the reflective film that sticks to the inside of the windows and blocks UV/IR. I thought it was going to be scammy cheap rubbish, but at €10 for a roll that did two medium sized window, it was worth a punt.

It is a fiddly ******* to fit without bubbles and creases, but the room we used it on now runs 2-3°C cooler and you don’t feel anywhere near the same heat when hold you hand near the south facing windows at midday.

Loving this glorious weather, long may it continue.

Will be going for a nice bike ride this afternoon to soak up a few rays.

I switch from biking to kayaking/board sports when it's this hot!

But agree. Long may it last!
It's such a small. Part of the year. But I always hope it lasts until September! :D
