It's too hot :(

You’ve got it easy up there pal. One day of it next week for you, we’ve got it for the next fortnight down here.

I think we are gonna set a new UK record this summer

Getting the kids to bed in this is absolutely ridiculous. Can't think of much worse than navigating the tube in this, hopefully you don't have to. I'm thinking of driving the 20 mins to work tomorrow just to sit in an aircon'ed office rather than being at home

I've got every door/window open, my house bakes as it gets sun on the front on the morning and midday till sun set it's on the back. It'll be 30°C+ in my upstairs tonight. I'm legitimately thinking of investing in a portable cooler/air conditioner.

We have one, it's absolutely worth it even if not the quietest thing.

My hedge trimmer didn't like working in the heat this evening. It is over thirty years old, though.

Could smell burning from the motor, and then I finished it off by cutting through the cable!

Another repair job then, luckily it will only lose a few inches.

In this weather, it's worth it.

A couple of quid a day to knock 10c if your indoor temperatures, well worth it.

If ours ever packs in i'm picking up another without question.

Had my portable for 10 years until recently getting ac fitted. The portable did an absolutely sterling job really, it struggled a bit when it got really hot, but it still knocked the temp down enough to make a real difference. The biggest downside to them is how inefficient they are. I'm finding having split AC on all day downstairs and night upstairs is using barely any more electricity than the portable just overnight.

I ought to get the portable up for sale while demand is high I guess though :D

How much did a split setup cost you including installation if you don't mind me asking?

What one did you get?

I've got a a 12000 BTU one I bought from Machine mart a few years ago, it's no longer on sale, cost me £400 and was worth every penny.

I used to take it to work with me in the summer & bring it back home again, it was a right pain but worth the hassle as my office is in a building from the late 1800's that has no A/C or cavity walls, it'd get our office where there was me & another colleague down from 35c indoors to to around 20c.

The summer we had a few years back where it touched 34c, we were sat in the office in a lovely 20c room and as soon as you opened the door into the next room it was like opening the oven.

It's really noisy, but so, so worth it.

Absolutely baking in the bedroom tonight, 26.5c.

To be fair, I think I'd lose more sleep if I bought and used an air conditioner, especially with energy prices the way they are right now. :o

I guess I'm quite fortunate.
The house faces west in back and east at the front.

What saves the house from baking is 2 oak trees in back garden. They provide probably a 60/40 shade/sun for the whole back of the house all summer.

Same Applies to the bedroom

Yeah, not sleeping tonight. Managed to settle my 3 lads at a reasonable time and thought I would grab an early night in case any of them wake up. They are fine, happily snoring away, me though, I just woke up with a head cold, sore throat, feeling really weak. Sweating head to toe. Great.
My eldest has sports day today at school, they changed the times due to the weather. So now they are doing half in the morning (no parents allowed) and the remaining events at 2pm for us parents to watch. I am like, 2pm? Thats the start of the hottest 3-4 hours of the day. Poor kids will be melting. Why not have it all in the morning when school starts. It will be 19c not 30c like it will be later.

Going to a mates static caravan on Thursday till Sunday in Chapel st Leonards. Not looking forward to coming home to Derby on Sunday. 38c forecast on Meteoblue, they tend to be spot on with the weeks forecasts.

For those of you posting temp reading from your AC, **** off.
