It's too hot :(

I certainly hope so - I can't stand this. I was OK in 1976 but tooooooo old for it now.

The only good thing about 76 was the young women sunbathed topless - On grass verges -all over the place -Don't get that these days.

I do come alive in the heat, setting my best 40K today on my Trek mountain bike, which was also set during the last high temp UK day.

I've got every door/window open, my house bakes as it gets sun on the front on the morning and midday till sun set it's on the back. It'll be 30°C+ in my upstairs tonight. I'm legitimately thinking of investing in a portable cooler/air conditioner.

Where abouts in France? Was down South last week and it was between 29-36, got quite used to it in the end, so nice to feel comfortable in shorts and t shirt at night.
SW - halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse.

The trick is to keep the shutters closed on the sunward side of the house all day long. You open up doors and windows in the morning to let fresh air in and then close them up as the day heats up.

Outdoor work gets done 07:00 - 11:00 and wherever’s shady later in the afternoon/early evening.

We got a portable A/C unit for the bedroom last summer which makes the summer nights so much more comfortabl.

Portable A/C units are good if you can duct the exhaust outside, though they’re aren’t the quietest home appliances.

Never found a water evaporation/swamp cooler that worked very effectively. They cool the air reasonably well, but they make the air very humid quite quickly and then you’re set in a warm and humid room.

That was the temperature of our upstairs until I put the air con on. Far too hot otherwise. It’ll be closer to 35 over the next few days. Horrible.

With extreme hot weather, if you are on holiday in the UK, staying at a hotel etc it’s more difficult to keep cool as can’t just pop in to cool off like at home.

Four years ago, I was in Newcastle UT for a friend’s hen do. It was extremely hot. Not helped by staying at the Premier Inn at Quayside. It’s right by a foot of the Tyne Bridge. Out of the ten rooms they booked, just two had air conditioning. My room was on the 4th floor. No air con. Just some poxy 5 inch fan. Had a tiny window, which if I did open - constant screeching from the Kittiwakes that roost in the nooks of the bridge.

Then when outside the hotel, got to dodge the Kittiwake poo. They plop everywhere and it stinks.

If want to enjoy outside, spare a thought for others. There’s a garden about four doors from my parents in the next road. About 7 lads shouting. Then another garden- loud techno music. It’s never nice music
