It's too hot :(

I'm usually fine with our summers. There's usually more than enough sunlight to see me through but this year has been dire. I'm not sure even Italy would be good enough to get me through the winter months. It's why pretty much all my holiday's over the last 2 decades have been during October and May and almost exclusively in Asia. Sadly, due to financial reasons and some worsening health, I haven't taken a holiday since 2018.

Sorry to hear that. Health, the ultimate 'f you'. Yeah I try to take. Holidays in winter. Kids. Are In school, our weather is poop. Usually summer is OK. I mean may-June were amazing. But July-August was a write off!

I like this thread, two groups of people at the exact opposite of the spectrum of "like and want more heat" and those "hating it too hot and want less heat" and you get these posts from baffled people as to why other people aren't thinking on their exact wave level so it makes for a great read.

I wish the journalists though we accept not all of us like heatwaves, I totally accept all people are different and some love it really hot, yesterday though I read a headline say finally its here just what we've all been waiting for, who are you including in all, you've not asked everyone.

You get the same in the winter thread the other way around LOL. Personally I just prepare for and deal with whatever the weather brings.

There are 1-2 hypocrites posting in this thread.

Today is really nice despite some clouds. Annoyingly everyone else has headed out for a walk and meal but I have to work.

Not everyone, I’m staying indoors (blinds closed) watching TV sports :D

I have a portable AC unit, but as with all portable units, it's blooming loud!! So I either be uncomfortable and barely sleep, or barely sleep because of the noise. Either way, it means very little sleep, which leads to worsening anxiety and lethargy. My aim is to get a proper split system installed in the house, but to hit the two main rooms will be over £3k, plus running costs and annual maintenance. It's really not cheap!
I don't think my portable AC is all that loud. Certainly not enough to stop me sleeping, but that could just be me. Surely the alternative is to run the AC for a couple of hours before bed, then turn it off as you go to bed? I've done this sometimes and I'm sure it drops the room 3 or 4 degrees...

It does drop the room a few degrees - but the rest of the house being hot just heats the room up again once you've turned it off! Entirely pointless :) so it needs to be run pretty much entirely overnight. Once we get a proper split system, it'll have kept the house down a few degrees all day, plus it'll be able to run overnight quite quietly if needed, such as the upcoming days with 26ºC+ temperatures.

That's not been my experience, but if that's what happens in your house, fair enough.
It seems to be the downside of having a very well insulated house. The flip side is, of course, the fact the house has used only 6000kWh of gas for the past year including generous use of central heating when needed.

But I assume my flat is quite well insulated. In the summer it doesn't get too hot, in the winter it doesn't get too cold. Surely what you're talking about is inside the main walls of the house? Insulation would help keep the cold in, no?

But anyway, it doesn't work for you, that's the main point

Ooof Wednesday could be a scorcher and quite a lot of chances of hitting 30+C over a large part of the south over the next few days and even a possible chance of going out of September with some days hitting 30, though the general trend is significantly cooling towards the end of the month.

Hole in the sock helping you keep cool?:p
these are special socks with built in toe nail length indicators.
first of the hot ones today so will be fun in the distillery, probably use the wet tshirt method later on and take loads of water as i do neglect this and just have a flask of tea usually
