It's too hot :(

The last dying breath of a lacklustre summer. That makes two in a row. This year has been particularly bad if you've been trying to grow anything in the garden.
Yep far too dry! Non stop watering! Still thats like most summers these days no real change there if anything its been slightly less droughty than previous years so grass stayed green, just. The real PITA has been the unseasonably severe winds in july and late august the runner beans always take a pounding I think they're done honestly can't see them recovering from that

Oh, that's great! The people I've ended up chatting with have struggled to grow stuff like tomatoes and cucumbers this year. Perhaps we're all just useless in the garden.
Probably not useless, just choosing the wrong variety if it's to be grown outside. While they were a bit slow to start as late spring was quite cold mine are doing well now and they usually crop into early October here but we are right on the south coast and a bit warmer than most areas. I only grow ridge cucumbers outside.

The best area for growing fruit and veg in the UK is undoubtedly Kent. Gets the most sunshine, warmest temps, very little frost and near perfect amounts of rainfall.

I used to grow fruit and veg. I was a beginner and found it incredibly easy, everything just seemed to take care of itself, and the produce was far superior to supermarket stuff, especially the strawberries.

The rural parts of Kent are packed with fruit orchards. My dad always used to take us to PYO farms as kids. Nowadays, fruit picking jobs in Kent are probably the easiest jobs in the country to get

My Dad had a poor show of garden fruit and veg this year and usually does really well. I'm not sure I have ever forgiven him for making me house/cat sit when they went on holiday at peak harvesting season and needing to spend my evenings after work picking all the fruit and veg for a couple of hours and then go round all the neighbours trying to get rid of it all! They were not happy with the giant courgette that I apparently missed either!

I actually really liked this summer. A few very hot days, none too hot but the average day was very consistently warm, not too windy and I don't recall any complete washout days either. Today feels like the proper start of autumn, dark and wet.

I'd say average summer. It was pants pretty much up to middle of July. Then couple of nice weeks. School holidays been pretty decent but I reckon the west has had it worse.

From how I understood the forecast, next week is supposed to be a bit parky before warming back up again - although not quite to the warmth we've had though. :(

Same I think this summer's been really good , few very hot days would be annoying to deal with if it went on for weeks , it's been mostly dry staying in the low to mid 20s

Did your area of the UK not experience the endless weeks of low to mid teens temperatures all throughout June and July that saw people putting their heating on and wearing layers?

Stoke saw about 5 good days in June and the same for July. August was by far the better month, but still nothing amazing. This year and last have been the two worst summers I've witnessed in my 43 years.

You realise not everyone in the UK has the same weather right? Its been very warm in the south after the spring damp its only yesterday the pattern shifted to an autumn one with wind and rain - yes rain, almost forgotten what that looked like havn't seen proper rainfall here for months. Had to find the duvet last night havn't needed it for months and even thought about putting away the shorts!

Where I am in the South West I'd have to say it has been one of the worst summers I can remember in my also 43 years. There was 2 patches of 2-3 days where it was summer like and the rest has been very dreary if not miserable. There has been like 3 nights I've thrown off the duvet the rest of the time it hasn't been worth changing to lighter bedclothes for the summer and just sticking with what I otherwise use the rest of the year round.
