iTunes 11

I'm really quite impressed with this. Very clean and simple-yet-powerful design.

Also for those that want to cling to the old ways it's simple. Click on "Songs" and it's like the list view before it. With the Genre|Artist|Album browser on top if you wish. Then it's View menu > Show Sidebar and you're pretty much back at iTunes 10. Obviously if you used Cover Flow you're screwed but for someone who thinks anything more fancy than list view is painfully slow and in-the-way I won't miss it :p

I hated Cover Flow - Never understood its appeal :/ :p

Kinda reminds me of a lot of smartphone features. Simply there to look cool rather than for any practical benefit. I like lots of info on the screen, not very specific info on one item when in a category view.

Not really specific to itunes 11, but does anyone know how to get itunes to play dvd / bluray m4v rips successfully?

They've always been juddery and poor quality when played through itunes and i've always resorted to using vlc / media player where they play perfectly. These are all handbrake encoded files so don't see why itunes is so crap at playing them.

I'd kinda hoped itunes 11 would have fixed this...

I liked cover view :(

Though a rewrite is needed, itunes had bad habits, even in osx. I am sure in a few weeks it'll be like old facebook and I will have forgotten how it used to be.

It definitely feels faster/smoother. I know iTunes generally runs better on OS X than on Windows but I can still notice the difference on Mountain Lion compared to iTunes 10.

I love it, i didn't really have a problem with 10.X, but this is much better! As has been said, cleaner, faster, nicer looking etc.

Am i missing something or cant you minimise it to the taskbar anymore...!?

E: Never mind, seems minimising works, hitting the icon to minimise it doesn't put it in the taskbar. :)

By far the most annoying thing in 10 for me was selectively syncing iPad apps and having to change the order to iPad only and by date every time I connected my iPad.

Just realised it now finally remembers your previous choice! So far 11 is a big win.

Haven't use it in any detail yet but the only annoyance so far is that you appear to have to turn on the menu bar in order to change the sort order in album view (I prefer by album instead of by artist).

You can turn it off again afterwards but I'd have though it would be more easily switchable.

I wish there was a way for iTunes to store my movies and tv shows in my macs Movies folder. I have a Movies folder, Apple put it there. So why are they all stored in my Music folder!

I know why, but it is a bit odd.

I wish there was a way to get back to song list for 1 album. Used that view an awful lot. The new dropdowns are partially there but don;t offer all the old functionality.

I like the new interface, seems nice and modern. iTunes has not had a good face lift for some time so this is quite welcome, I also prefer the layout which is now a lot neater.

Is their a way to get the older style left "explorer" back?

Ahh nevermind...found the view "sidebar" option.

The interface is much, much better, I approve.

I have updated to the latest version of the remote app as well and this is doing my head in.

I have a library of approx 20,000 tracks, all show up and play perfectly when I am in front of my mac.

If I launch remote on my iPad and pair it with iTunes the app says it can see my library, but nothing is showing within remote.

If I play a track or album via the mac itself, that track or album appears in remote and from there it is available to control.

I have played a couple of dozen albums on the mac just now and as soon as I've done it they all magically appear within remote. For 1700 odd albums that's a bit of an issue! All I need to do is play a second or two of a track and it appears.

But otherwise all good!

I can now pause a song when not in the music view, before I could only stop a song which was annoying with longer things like podcasts. hurrah!

Yes! Show sidebar and all is good in the world!

Now, if only i could change the white background and perhaps get rid of the cartoonish icons in the sidebar...which coincidentally they phased out in Lion are now back...
