Some fun for your Friday...

Recently, I was sent this photograph by a rather lovely reader. The thing was taken at the Skirrid Inn - a location well known to those interested in spooky stuff. I have a connection to the Skirrid in that I wrote about it in one of my chapters, and it has a long and interesting history (worth a Wiki-read).

Anyway, I thought GD's experts (hi DickyBob) might like to have a look and offer some rational explanations. I'm particularly interested in our resident photographers' opinions and if anyone can make it clearer. Personally, I think it's intriguing, and it's a good one as far as these things go, but what do you think?

Did you spot the two 'faces'? There's a tiny bit more on my blog. It's a shame these things are often shaky and out of focus.

Can I offer a little lesson in rational thinking ?

I can not explain 'X', therefore 'X' is a ghost.

This is a fallacy known as the 'Argument from ignorance'

There are many explanations for this photo, from hoax to unexplained. But no rational person would just insert 'ghost'.
 
Can't see exit on my pad but guessing it's a slowish shutter speed causing motion blur on whoever is behind the door

I captured a shot like this the other day with my uncle walking across my camera, My uncle isn't a ghost either lol :p
 
Why does the far left side of the "arm" go through the door if it's behind it?.

Looks like a poor photo-shop to me, or as above an exposure trick - the object is both behind & in-front of the door at the same time.

Could be the ghost of cubone's mother, if i was you, i'd get out of lavender town ASAP. Unless of course you have the silph scope in which case you can reveal the ghost's true identity and solve this case.

It's a technique I used recently at work to capture this image.

[Image now removed. Not good protocol to keep images from work up permanently]

Long shutter (1/2 second), flash, disco lights and other ambient lights created some ghost-like figures whenever light hits person. If light hits a subject more than once while the shutter is open and that subject (or the camera) moves, you'll have 2 or more captures of them, making a ghost-like image.

Someone standing behind the door with outstretched hands. That bright light and lack of depth of field from the door backwards is making it look spooky. The frosted glass adds to the effect. I bet the person was also moving at the time.

Can I have my prize now? :p
