I've given up on LPG - the future is Electric.

I thought we were reliant on storage systems and do indeed have them. Fast reserves they call them don't they.

Fast Reserve has nothing to do with the topic being discussed. It's a fail-safe, the back-up that is used when there are unpredicted spikes in demand. It stops the lights going out. It doesn't balance green energy generation to provide a steady power output from renewable sources.

Most of the FR capacity is in pumped hydro storage. Pumped Hydro is a great way to store large amounts of energy for emergencies. It would be incredibly inefficient to use it regularly due to the energy lost when pumping the water back up.

Just down the road from me there is a proposal to build a "Battery bank"

Around 30 shipping containers worth of highly reactive and toxic chemicals!

As luck would have it, I am living (with the prevailing winds and all that) right under where the fallout plume of sulphuric acid and whatever will go if the balloon goes up!

Never mind, I am thinking of moving soon anyway!

:(

(Give me a Nuke any-day, we should have done what the French did, Anybody within a certain distance of a Nuclear plant got free electricity for ever)

What next, underground pipes filled with highly-flammable gas?

I bet that gets very boring very quickly
Yes, but you get to learn the capabilities whilst doing it. How far 'can I make it' and what you have to do to achieve it.

Then you end up just driving it like a normal, effortless, well equipped comfortable car, whilst never visiting a petrol station, with the added confidence of knowing you could go a bit further if required.

So I've had the Nissan Leaf Tekna since Tuesday and I really like it :). It's effortless to drive around London, good acceleration and easy to "waft" about in. It is quite addictive trying to drive as efficiently as possible whilst trying not to make a nuisance of yourself!

I could be tempted with a deal when I take it back tomorrow, but I'm still undecided! They seem to depriciate a LOT. For example:

Brand new Nissan Leaf 24Kwh Tekna = £21,190 + battery leasing

'64 Plate Nissan Leaf 24Kwh Tekna from main dealer = £8,495!

That and the high cost of insurance. I cannot find quotes that aren't at least double that of my ICE cars! Any advice insurance wise?

Ultra cheap all in lease deals and second hand are the only sensible options financially it would seem.

I must admit that as an outsider who's never driven one I can't understand why you would have any interest in driving it economically if you know you have range to spare? Surely the fact that the 'fuel' is so cheap means you can drive it everywhere as quick as you like and not have to worry about it.

Without having to worry about the contents of my tank at 122p/L I'd be accelerating as quick as I could when the road allows, as it stands I'm a bit more reserved :p

I now do the weekly 90 miles commute in my wifes 2008. Not because I can't in the leaf, but because due to the ridiculous way the Government has arranged charging in the uk - it's now MORE EXPENSIVE!!!!

Where I used to charge in Southend now charges a lot for charging, and also has a time limit which means I can't event get a full charge.

The plus point is that while I commute in the 2008, she uses the Leaf. So overall we're still saving a load on fuel. Especially as the vast majority of my charging is done via the solar panels.

I'm sure plenty of you are going to hate this - but I think it looks great. :p

Why does it have illegal front lights?

You're only allowed white lights on the front of UK cars.

How to make a futuristic car look like one from the 90s. Isn’t an electric car about not wasting electric too ?

Who told you that? Or did you just make it up. There's nothing illegal about yellow lights [source]. They're much better than 'xenon white' for driving in fog.

A few leds are pretty insignificant. Plus - they're not permanently on.

Looks like a bug. Your username is apt :p
My other car looks even more like a bug. ;)
