I've just watched the Premier League Champions elect at Anfield

Babel just behind Torres would be interesting aswell, just a shame it's not going to happen anytime soon.
Or even Yossi. Both deserve a chance but it'll never happen unless Benitez's two goal bum chum picks up a knock :(

Babel------Alonso-----Masch------Gerrard

Give that a try for a few games and see how well we do.

Admittedly we have a far better chance than most thought and we are playing excellent footy, our problem is that with RvP injured our front line is easily the worst out of all the big 4. Adebayor is punching above his weight in terms of goals so far. You just have to look at his last couple of matches to see he is no goal scorer. Eduardo looks like he needs a season to settle in as he's been poor so far. Other then Cesc we still have no midfielders who seem to be able to score regularly too. It's a long old season and i can't see us keeping this up. We definitely need a win against Man U to keep the momentum going and give us a little cushion.

I'd rather we had Babel down the right and Benayoun on the left with Gerrard behind the one striker. Benayoun would still have the freedom to come inside but having Gerrard in the middle will give him the chance to have a greater effect on the game than he can outwide.

Put it this way Liverpool were bloody lucky to get the draw today, watched the highlights after i got back from the NFL game and it put a dampener on my evening to learn they got a draw out of it...although the Giants won:D. But tbh they are lucky those scousers to get that result...very lucky not to get hammered by Arsenal.

Still feel Arsenal need a proper out and out striker though ie a fox in the box to put it bluntly. Too many wasted chances today from seeing the highlights but cant be too disappointed i suppose. We still top the league, just hoping that when we come up against Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool again...we hammer them.

People are saying the current arsenal team/players are not as good as previous teams....

NEWSFLASH!: These are young players, the players you are naming were at they're prime, NONE of the arsenal players now (Except maybe Gallas) are near there prime yet.

A 1-1 draw away from home is not a bad result. It could and maybe should have been better, but it still isn't a bad result.

Arsenal played well, not great today.
After L'pool scored, they sat back a fair bit and Torres hardly counted as a player.
So, it didnt prove the test I had hoped for.
No-one can deny they play some great stuff.
But the media has created such a frenzy over them, in the way they did with Brazil and Barcelona, that people have lost the ability to be objective.
The simple pass becomes "genius" and the good becomes great.
Then theres the fact idiots like that greasy, cocky kid, whose name I'm not sure how to spell, constantly tells anyone who will listen that they are the only team on earth who play good football.
For my money, Man Utd are still the team to beat. Off hand, I could only see Galas and said greasy Spaniard getting into our team, with RVP perhaps.
They have been fairly lucky with injuries, when we have had a heck of a lot.
We have more fire power and more special players imo.
Given a chance to go a few months without interruption and I can see us playing even better football than we are currently.
Besides, however good arsenal play, lasagna's hair still looks ridiculous. Isn't that the real issue here?;)

Such a pain to have to listen to Andy Gray **** over Fabregas today. I'm pretty sure he'd marry him if given the choice. As usual, the critics grumble a bit about United playing well and then go on about Arsenal. That team has no spine. Their forward line looked pretty impotent for most of the game against an average Liverpool team.

thats the exact opposite reaction i get from MOTD. they brush arsenal off and go on about Man U. (esp the great English talent Rooney).

admit it:

Arsenal = Most Beautiful football in world, but right now can only challenge for one piece of real silverware (CC dont count)
Manu = Second best football in premier league, but more depth in squad that can win all real cups

Who would you prefers watching. me it would be arsenal. its just sublime football, just like last year, but with finishing. if they can keep the league, they have dam sure deserved it.

Almunia
Toure
Eboue
Gallas
Gilberto
Hleb
Rosicky

Those are all at their best now. I hate the term prime, because it makes everything sound so short lived.

Man Utd.
We played the best football last year and we're more direct and attacking.

And they are Arsenal.

If they don't win the league this year it will be a tragedy. Some of their football was sublime, to the point where I was applauding them instead of Liverpool. First to every tackle and loose ball, always a spare man. Hunger and desire to win. Arsenal deserve it this year.

A 1-1 draw with the best footballing side in the league is more than Liverpool fans could have hoped for given our recent run of results. But the football that Arsenal played just made a mockery of anything I have seen at Anfield in the last few years.

If Chelsea or the Mancs win it this year it will be a travesty. Arsenal played some boss footy and deserve the league.

El Voz has spoken :)

Even a biased gooner like me wouldn't get this carried away lol. Still a long way to go and ultimately we will probably fall short but in the coming years I'm very confident we can win the title. I think this is a season to soon for us.

Great performance by us though, not many will go to Anfield and put in a performance of this quality. Thought we should have won but I would have taken a draw going into this game.

Man U play some lovely stuff but I have never seen a side come to Anfield and play like they were the home side as Arsenal did today. Closest to them was Valencia in the 2002 champions league game..

Or when we played there in 2003 and battered your lot senseless! It was a travesty we weren't 4-0 up by half time then! Ended up 2-2, story of our season that game, battering teams and somehow messing up!

I've literally lost count of how long it has been since Wenger has been able to pick his first choice XI - at least 2.5 YEARS I think but it could be a fair bit longer. And the bottom line is, no, they can't cope with it - the only thing they've won during that time is the FA Cup.

As I mentioned in the spoiler thread, Arsenal are yet to win in the league outside their home town and I think the fixture list has been very kind.

If I look at the current squad, as much promising talent as there is, it isn't in the same class as the title winning sides of 98 and 02/04

GK: Seaman / Lehmann / Almunia
RB: Dixon / Lauren / Sagna
LB: Winterburn / Cole / Clichy
CB: Adams / Campbell / Gallas
CB: Keown / Toure / Toure
RW: Parlour / Ljungberg / Hleb
LW: Overmars / Pires / Rosicky
CM: Vieira / Vieira / Fabregas
CM: Petit / Gilberto / Gilberto (Flamini if you prefer)
FW: Bergkamp / Bergkamp / Van Persie
FW: Anelka / Henry / Adebayor

We have more strength in depth now than in 1998 but then so does everyone else, that's just the way football has evolved. In terms of individuals aside from Fabregas not many would get in the older teams, maybe Toure alongside Adams but then breaking up that back 4 would be hard to do. OK so the '98 side has a couple of weaker players but remember that Seaman, Adams, Vieira, Overmars and Bergkamp were all at the top of their games at that time too.

Those past teams physically are much stronger but certainly are not technically. This current lot in attack I feel have a lot more strings to their bow. We don't have the raw pace and power like those teams but a lot more variety to our play. That said ultimately will be compared at the end of the season but this current line up I feel still has a few more levels in them and in 2-3 years time I reckon we could be one of the best. Much more variety I feel in the way we can score now and a lot more suited to play in Europe, all those teams failed in Europe but this current team are suited so well for it yet can do in the league as well. Much more patient and much more dangerous late on in games as we will try to change things around.

Man U and Chelsea have never ever come to Anfield and played like it was their ground. Ever.

Man Utd ( and possibly Chelsea) have won matches there - so which is more important - the style of play or the 3 points?

I would take 3 points every time to be honest - especially at a tricky ground like Anfield (even though Liverpool are WAY off their best, Torres wasnt match fit and injured himself, Alonso reinjured in first match back, Mascherano possibly as well - to add to the list you already had)

Good game but neither side were brilliant , you just balanced each other out

Could easily have been 3-3, or anything inbetween - Arsenal didnt have that many decent chances though

All that matters is who does the best over 38 games - not 10 :)

In all honesty, the play from both United and Arsenal has been sublime this season, but I believe there are a few key differences between the two. Adebayor (sp?) looks a bit special at times, but withou Van Persie there is no real threat from the forwards. Arsenal are doing what united did last season which is spreading the goals a bit, but I find united to be more scintelating at the moment with more physical strength throughout the squad, more experience and what is looking to be one of the most prolific attacking formations in premier league history.

I will be gutted if we lose to Arsenal on Saturday. We had a blip at the start of the season, but have been faultless in the league since.

I think Fergie will probably have a mad moment and play 4-5-1 on Saturday so i'm predicting either a draw or a home win. Either way I still think we'll win the league.

Nice to watch some of Arsenals football.
First to every ball though? What match were you watching?

Good tactics from Benitez but that sort of negative impotent football is not gonna win Leagues.

We are way off the top two.

I would rate Arsenals backline against any in their history right now. Arsenals backline is top notch.

Not having that, Toure is flaky as a very flaky thing, Gallas has as much footballing ability as John Terry (IE not much) and the two full backs are fairly average.

I'd say Toure is the 2nd best CB in the Premiership. Gallas is better than Terry. Sagna looks like a very good purchase and is a lot stronger than Eboue and Clichy is better than Cole was.

Still wouldn't swap it for ours though.

Cole was and is a far better left back, even under maureen. Gallas is a good defender, but not a great one.

I'm just not having Toure, I must be missing something when I'm watching him because i see a lot of tugging and tripping and fuss and his arms waving in the air going "it wasnt me" but not a lot of brilliant defending.
