J Connor is Back!

I agree that T1 was better than T2 but I think we may be alone on this. The CGI of T2 makes most people think it's better, when in fact, T1 was better because it created the original story and concept. Don't get me wrong, its up there with Aliens and The Empire Strikes Back as the best sequels of all time. I have watched it more times than I care to admit to.
The CGI in T2 doesn't look great these days and I still prefer it, no amount of CGI could make me watch a film as much as I have T2.

And shame on you for not mentioning The Godfather Part II amongst the best sequels. :p

I can't actually get over how good that looks. It's obviously taking a turn away from the traditional Terminator film, it looks a lot darker. This is a good move, but I'm still a bit doubtful as to how McG (wtf?) and the other writers (with an equally poor history) could make a decent film. At least Christian Bale is in it, that's all I will say. :p

I am a bit Family Guy on this, I find it insists itself on you. Never really liked it.

this is based on the start of the battle right?
I cant see why anyone wouldnt want this to come out, as this battle happened as far as T1 and T2 go, until further into thefuture when terminators get sent back etc?

Meh long as its entertaining.

I can just never understand why movies take so god damn long. That teaser appears (to me at least) like they must've filmed a hell of a lot already, but Summer 2009?

Just doesn't make sense to me.

theres no real acting in those shots, so you wouldnt know how far through shooting they were.

After that theres all the different post production to do..
Have you ever done any substantial post production work on movies..? its VERY time consuming.

If you liked T3 then you will like T4 next year for sure.

It remains to be seen though whether T1 & T2 fans will like T4.

T2's a stunning film. It still looks good, I can't see why you'd say it doesn't!
It does still look good for a film that came out more than 15 years ago. My point wasn't that it looks bad, but if the argument is going to be put forward that people prefer T2 because of the sfx, then you have to compare them to present day effects, and obviously T2 is now considerably behind what we're seeing in current movies.

Of course you could say it was the effects that people liked at the time of release (and could easily have been true for some), but if you're still saying it 15+ years later, you have to ask does it compare to present standards, and clearly it doesn't (as you would not expect it to).

The named Director does not fill me with much confidence tbh, however comments from man of the moment Mr Bale, do bring some hope >

'I felt that I wasn't sure where it could go to. Before I gave an answer, I went back and reviewed the other movies. I felt like "Okay, unlike 'Batman Begins,' this would be something where we would be respecting the previous mythology." Certainly of one and two, not so much number three – but certainly you would be recognizing that mythology, unlike "Batman Begins" where we were saying that this is the beginning, right here. But what I view in it, and what has ultimately made me make the choice to make it, is that I see the same potential for reinvention and for breathing new life into the mythology. That's what I view our responsibility as filmmakers to be. It's pointless if we don't succeed in doing that.'

We can only hope^

It would be a stronger sign if he said he took it because of the script rather than just because he thinks there is a story to tell beyond T1/T2.

And McG has no track record whatsoever of making decent films, certainly not decent on the level people would want this to be anyway.

Yeah, why on Earth is he called McG anyway?

I'll remain open minded about this though, Bale is enough to balance out the writers and director at the moment.

No actor on Earth can balance a bad script and/or direction. Indeed, good enough direction can cover up the fact that no-one in the film can act: witness "Speed", or just about anything with Bruce Willis in it. That is why pretty much every actor has starred in at least one, and sometimes many, complete turkeys. Good films are made by, in order:

a) Good director.
b) Good script(writers(s))
c) Good actors.

A fair aguement could be made for putting a good producer ahead of all of those - films which have been ruined by producer interference are legion.

But as you get older you will realise this.

*shudders at pic*

The metal-skeleton form terminators really send a shiver down my spine, and nothing portrays a sense of dread like the soundtrack of T2
