Add an alien which is bigger than the dog it just popped out of, the idea that group of psychopathic criminals would turn into monks and the casual killing of all but one of the previous survivors (presumably because they'd read the script and didn't want to get involved) and the film is laughably bad. A4 is certainly very silly (the two main "scientific" ideas are way past impossible and into pseudo-science), but at least it had a sense that the director knew what he was doing.

Well Alien 3 is a favorite movie of mine, it is vastly underrated and you should know that Fincher knew exactly what he was doing, Weaver just wouldn't leave him to make the film he wanted, if she had done so, Alien 3 would more than likely be a modern sci-fi classic, just take a look at Finchers better movies (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac). Granted it suffered from some bad effects with regards to the alien but there are some very good themes throughout and it takes repeated viewings to really "get it". I'm not saying you didn't get it, i'm talking generally because at first, I thought it was pretty awful but it grew on me the more times I watched it. The performance by Charles Dutton is excellent, as is Charles Dance. If anything weaver is to blame for the failure of this movie, just google a few articles about how she interfered on nearly every level of production, about how it had to be her way all the time or she would "walk". Fox are money hungry, will always go for the dollar over integrity and without weaver, there would be no dollar.

I could go on and on with why I think it's better, but i'll agree to disagree on this, i've been an ardent fan of the alien movies since I first got the life scared out of me at 7 years old, I know them inside out and upside down, was a real geek when I was younger and read all literature on them, maybe a bit too much looking back. Plus this is a terminator thread and i'll let it get back on topic.

isnt this new installment the first in a trilogy? sure i read that somewhere..

i think potentially it could be a good film. lots of human vs terminator battle action?
 
Am watching the series every week, but every week I find it's getting worse.

Nothing much is happening. No fight scenes really. I seems like a drama than an action series.

There's normally loads of buildup to not much. This week's is ok because of John Ryan has a body ;) It's a little freaky seeing Cromartie back in it.

That was always the declared intention: right from pre-production of series one we were told that the intention was to concentrate on character, not on action. If for no other reason that it's cheaper. Not to mention the the fact that they'd never be able to compete with the films on the action front and it was silly to try.

Of course those of us who are adults also know that character is not only far more important than action, but makes better drama. By far the best moment in this series, and probably both, was Cameron pleading for her "life" in series two episode one, for instance. But you're right that it's mostly been downhill from there. The problem is that they've clearly decided that Glau was dominating the first series too much and taking attention away from what are nominally the two main characters. The trouble is, the two main characters are pretty much charisma-free: almost everyone else in it dominates them.

yep remember when tom cruise was this man look what happened to him, we now all hate him..

also I've long lost my way with all the spin off for this, terminator and T2 are the only ones I would watch.

I can imagine the action in this up coming films will be imense. though I imagine bale will use some sort of sonic phone nonsense to defeat them
