James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

I found the story dull, and quite predictable.

I didn't really enjoy it, its my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.

I don't have to follow everyone and say that it was an incredible film.

And before you ask what films I enjoy, the last film I saw in the cinema and enjoyed was Star Trek - never having been a fan of the series personally, but I enjoyed the movie.

Enjoy.

Finally caught this today, excellent film and the visuals and sfx (even though only seen in 2D) brilliant. Verdict still out on the story, kind of Dances With Wolves meets the RainForest meets Judgement on Janus (Andre Norton). Thought the running time for the cinema was about right, though happy to see any additional footage in the "Director's Cut" Blu-Ray.

Overall I would probably rate it 4 stars rather than 5 but still a very enjoyable movie experience.

I still think Titanic has had a lot more success than Avatar though, despite being overtaken for the top spot. I can't help but think that Avatar got there solely due to the visual effects and 3D, whilst Titanic got there using the same stuff as everyone else.

The biggest motion picture budget in history, a 2/3rds replica of a 80 year old cruise liner, the worlds biggest wet stage.................

No Titanic did it with a lot more than everybody else.

...and filming on location, at the Titanic, 2 miles down! Outrageous!

Also Cameron has confirmed a sequel.

He’s talked about, as to the sequel all I can find is this which appears to be a rumour:

As James Cameron’s Avatar overtakes Titanic to become the biggest box office success of all time, winning Golden Globes and getting ready for a possible Oscar sweep, rumor has it that pre-production might be gearing up on a sequel to his 3D sci-fi epic. I have received word, from a source who has provided /Film with some good tips in the past, that technical crew members have already begun to be hired for Avatar 2.

According to the source, some behind the scenes technical crew have signed on for three to five year contracts, just in case it runs long. While I’m unable to confirm this report with a second source, this bit shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as Cameron has always said that he hopes to create an Avatar trilogy. And with the box office receipts and awards, you can be sure that Fox is pushing for a sequel. But will this really be Cameron’s next film?

Do you have a source for official confirmation?

"We'll follow Jake and Neytiri," he said. "I have a trilogy-scaled arc of story right now, but I haven't really put any serious work into writing a script."

At a Q&A with Cameron held in Los Angeles earlier this week, Ain't It Cool News reported that the director said, "Yes, there'll be another."

That's where I got it, "from the horses mouth" as it were.

maybe this has been mentioned or answered before

its the biggest grossing film ever but is that not in large part due to tickets being at least £1 more expensive as you pay for the 3D specs?

You pay more for 3D then you would a "normal" film.

The money it's taken needs to be adjusted for inflation, which sticks it as the 26th highest grossing film ever made.

You are truly missing out.

+1

Finally got to see it yesterday at the IMAX in Waterloo, absolutely epic I was so transfixed and immersed in the film just a shame my girlfriend and mate managed to sleep through it:rolleyes:. Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland for me next at the IMAX:cool:.
