James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

Saw this on Sunday, loved most of it although it was rather predictable, sometimes you just need an easy to watch film!

2 Questions though.

1. When I get to the cinema the only seats available were at the front, does this affect the 3D experience at all?
2. When it comes to Blue-Ray, can it still be watched in 3D, or does it need the digital projectors?

Saw this in 3D last night. What an AMAZING film.

Not a complicated story, but very believable with truly awe inspiring effects. Best film since LOTR. 5 stars :)

Finally going to see this on Saturday...third time of trying. Going to pre-book tickets this time! :D

Hopefully it'll be as good as everyone says it is.

saw it on sunday at the odeon in epsom in 3d i tried booking tickets for the imax in london but unfortunately they are fully booked for the next couple of weeks!!

But i thought the visuals were truly spectacular by far the best i've ever seen and very believable. the scenery of where they lived looked amazing made me want to go there :D
The story was rather predictable and easy to watch but i guess thats what makes big sales! After about 5 minutes though i totally forgot that it was in 3D felt totally normal.
I cant wait for the future for when this will be available for the likes of us at home..

I finally saw this yesterday in 3D and thought it was fantastic! May even see it again, was pleased that we got Orange Wednesday for it too and two student tickets so it came to about £8.40 :)

Well I'm the guy who created this Avatar thread over 5 months ago and after a 5 week booking wait for BFI London IMAX I saw the film last Friday. So it's about time I gave my opinion! :)

Bear in mind I watched it in prime seats on the biggest cinema screen in the country (20m x 26m), in 3D with the IMAX resolution and 11,600-watt digital surround-sound. So the setting added to the experience.

It was possibly the best cinema experience of my life. I was transfixed for most of it, just in awe of what I could see and hear developing in front of me. Visually, I can't think of anything else I've seen that equals the film. In terms of the three dimensional and the CGI. Cameron's achievement in creating an alternate alien world with floating mountains, mile high trees, crazy plant life and animals which somehow still felt so real was one of the most impressive things about the film. Add to that the overall design of the human colony with their weapons and technology etc. in my opinion make Avatar a landmark accomplishment for cinema. It sucked me in from the first frame. I was totally immersed with 3D world I spend 160mins in, and didn't want to leave!

Most criticisms come from the plot being unoriginal and predicatable. I guess that's true but personally didn't detract anything from the film for me at all. There was a strong cast and the story was delivered and paced in such a way it reaches beyond being just a leave-your-brain-at-the-door type *looks at the likes of G.I. Joe* . If i want an high-brow, original, complicated, unpredicable movie there's plenty of ones that do that but they'd not normally come close to the pure amazment and entertainment I got from Avatar.

I'll be aiming to watch again at the cinema, hopefully IMAX if it stops being fully booked for a month in advance

Similar to my comment - Yes the plot is simple and somewhat predictable, but somehow the film get away with it!

Glad you liked it, but he just pulled the 'Aliens' human technology look/feel so it had been seen before.

The story to me felt almost identical the whole American Indian and first settler history lesson.

As a cinema experience yeah it was canny. But to be honest had it not been for the 3D it wouldn't have been owt special and when it hits Blu-Ray I think people will see it for what it is, a cinematography tech demo. The story was bad, and that's what should draw you in not the the visual effects.

One other thing that I thought was pants was the aliens having African accents

Don't quite agree because the story is simple it = bad? I also don't believe the story is quite as simple as people suggest, if only because it's told (on the screen) extremely well, which makes it look easier (simpler) that it is.

Anyway, I certainly didn't see it as a tech demo, but one of the most enjoyable and refreshing cinema visits I've had in a long time - simple story or not :)

I didn't actually say it was simple.
