James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

Well Alice In Wonderland pushes it out of IMAX cinemas in four weeks time so if it's not already significantly slowed by then I'm sure that'll put a big dent in the takings.

+1 for drunkenmaster's review. An excellent summation.

Yeh! He's back! :)

You haven't posted for 2-3 weeks now - You been keeping a careful eye on the posts till you found a -ve one you could finally jump on the back of? :)

ps: We all know you didn't like the film - including from before you or anyone had even seen it :)

Saw it last night and well, there go's £18 I aint getting back.

What a sub standard shower of s***. Laughable acting and a cliche' story line.

The effects are 99% of the films substance with the plot and script being simply an after thought. It really is shockingly bad as film.

However as a piece of eye candy to to really show off what the big screen is all about then there has been nothing to demonstrate it better, its just a shame it costs £9 per ticket and lasts 160mins.

If anyone else uses the word 'epic' to describe this film...well.....

On the plus side we went to watch Up in the Air as well straight after and that's 10 times the film Avatar is. Thoroughly enjoyed it and cant wait to see it again.

So it's FernGully with a little sci-fi/action thrown in, and in 3D. A bit 'meh'. Swear I heard a little of the old 'Aliens' soundtrack thrown in too. Surprised how packed the cinema was still, could barely get a seat.
Since I can't be bothered giving this any more of my time, I'll just walk away from the pc whilst shaking my head, overwhelmed with :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I finally watched this the other night, I was left in awe and amazement. Awe at the effects, amazed at such a poor cheesy story to go with them.

Actually no, that was just a drive-by posting. I haven't read the last two weeks of posts (or however long it's been). Did I miss anything good? :)

Nonsense. I started hating it from the day the fanboys all saw it and staggered out of the cinema to ejaculate their praise onto OcUK. :D

Now it's a peeing competition? :)

But what exactly is your point? To let us know you don't like it? - You can take that as a given. That some other people don't like it? - Again, we know reviews/views are mixed...

Or is your point that the people who did enjoy it are somehow wrong? Fair enough, keep posting... :)

James Horner constantly recycles his sound tracks.

There was a little cue in Avatar that was lifted straight from Enemy At The Gates. It was also fairly well used in Troy.

Not familiar enough with those scores, but definately agree Aliens was in there, and from memory I'll swear Titanic was too!? Annoyed me...

Have to admit I didn't notice any Aliens in there but it wouldn't be a James Horner sound track if it didn't :p So I can believe it.

I actually thought that horror film in 3D? About the dude with the pick axe?

They used 3D really well in that.

There were a few shots in Avatar that really stood out and were obviously used to highlight (remind) people it was in 3D.

Interestingly, the person condemning the "fanatics" is so dedicated to his cause that he's the second highest by post count in this thread.

What's the opposite of irrational enthusiasm?

Yeah, you'd start to think that NeilFawcett quite liked this film looking at his post counts ;) hahahahaa

Hey! Don't take my no. of posts as a rating... To be fair most of them were simply trying to fend Evangelion off from burning the film at the stake :)

I think I've said a number of times, even with the films obvious flaws I still enjoyed it and rated it as about an 8/10 for me...
