January Transfer Rumours

Young English players bought by Wenger almost invariably 'fail' at Arsenal - Wright, Jeffers, Pennant, Upson etc have all been and gone. I'm really struggling to think of any such purchases that have made the grade.

There isn't one, I'm actually struggling to remember the last Englishmen that did well at THoF who was purchased. I think you might need to go as far back as Dixon/Bould/Winterburn. To be fair none of those players mentioned have really set the world alight since leaving.

They seldom do mate , big teams dont let go of players if they have much left.
Look at the players that have left Man Utd , Beckham aside natch.
Iirc Bould helped sundland get relegated didnt he? Worthy of note imo.

Whats THoF btw?
I hope you dont mean the home of football.
A failed merger with Fulham , crossing the Thames , ripping off the church and 2nd divison football as late as 1913 ?

Your avin a turkish aintcha?

Indeed The Home of Football :p

I have no idea what you mean about the bent period of the club during the 1910's and a certain 'character' Henry Norris. He makes George Graham look like a Saint.

Yep Stevie Bould managed to 'help' the Mackems to do that.

Walcott to Arsenal for £15m  Looks a bit more likely now

£15m is way too much for a 16year old kid however good he is and however many installments.Seems a big gamble for a club with limited (relatively) money available and more pressing player requirements.Pongolle was equally impressive as a kid,and although the potential is still there he's hardly set the prem on fire.

I don't think the money is any cause for a concern. Next season we should be raking it in, due to the huge increase in the gate. Of course it might not be £15m. He hasn't even signed so I won't get too worked up about it.

Danny Murphy spent much of Tuesday in talks with Newcastle United but the Charlton midfielder has seen his expected transfer frustrated by a financial snag.

With funds tight on Tyneside any deal would depend on Lee Bowyer moving in the opposite direction but, while Newcastle want a straight swap, Charlton want a part exchange which would see them pocket £2.5m and secure Bowyer.

Thats us skint then.

Would be gutted to see Walcott go to Arsenal, especially for £15m, thats an absolutely ridiculous fee for a 16yr old. Also would be a shame as hes admitted to being a lifelong Liverpool fan.

He's also said Theirry Henry is his Idol and he'd love to play football with him;)
