January Transfer Rumours

I'm of the opinion that both Fergie & Wenger know exactly what they're doing with their new signings. They can't challenge Chelsea for at least 3yrs I reckon, 'til the likes of Lamps are 'past it' or lose form, so they're now investing in long term players more than just buying instant fixes, good business sense if you ask me:)

Well Chelsea are certainly not as good when "The joint best player in the prem along with Rooney" isnt playing.

But i dont think even when the "officially second best player in the whole of europe" is past it chelsea will drop off to any noticable degree.

Chelsea don't really need to drop off much to be caught I reckon because all though they're head & shoulders above everyone else in England at the moment they're still not as good as the media make out, they're not a patch on Barcelona for instance, but the media won't have that. They're extremely hard to beat granted, but they're not as good as the Arsenal team from 18months ago or the treble winning Man.U. The rest just have to get back to a proper standard to challenge them, let's be honest, there's not much else in the PL at the moment.

Good to see we've got the chequebook out, these signings are a bit young for my liking, would be good to see some more experienced players come in. To totally contradict that, though, would be good if we could get Walcott, think it could provide a boost to the other players to make a more high profile signing.

I would agree that they are not as good as the treble winning side, i dont think anybody has come close either.
I would agree that the prem as a WHOLE has been weaker these past 4 years, (and ive said it in each of those years), in fact ive also said that i've seen some of the worst football i have EVER seen in these past four years in general from sides in the prem.
The problem with the other teams in the league, is a lack of..........its hard to describe.
The only thing i can come close to saying what i mean is:

" i would rather have a go and loose 4-0 than sit back and loose 1-0"
Which is an attitude to many teams have when playing Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea.
Get at them you bunch of gays.

I'll agree with that.
This Chelsea team compared to either:
ManU Treble team.
Arsenals 49 game unbeaten team.
Juventus at the moment.
AC Milan for the last 2 seasons. (maybe not this season).
Barcelona at the moment.
....would get thoroughly beaten by any of the above.

High profile?

Only because of the amount of cash involved. And lets face it, thats a stupid amount of cash.

He's a very young kid thats not really done a lot. He's got the promise but thats it.

Don't agree with that. The treble-winning side might spawn a last-minute winner that they didn't deserve, and any of the rest might beat them, but it wouldn't be a thorough beating. Chelsea are too strong for that.

I agree with you totally about the cash and the fact that he is only a young kid, but the story is attracting top billing on the back pages, so there's excitement around Arsenal again. Hope that makes sense :p

Looks like Micheal Brown could be off to Birmingham for £1.5m. Add that to the £7.5m from Portsmouth and the £20m Spurs already have in the transfer kitty, not forgetting the £100k a week saved in wages from those sales and Spurs look to be in good shape all round to add some real quality to the team.

Wayne Bridge on loan would be a damn good start :)

I think the Mendes & Davis partnership will do well for Pompey, both are good players and still rated by a lot of Spurs fans. Paramot is returning for his 2md stint at the club I believe.

If the excitement is there already why bother signing him? :p

There simply has to be better players about for anything like that cash.

IF he was that good then everybody would be after him.
From what i understand, he is very quick, and is good.......in the first division.

So was Bobby Zamora
And Louis Saha.

10 million quid is a joke for a championship player.

He reminds me so much of Kieron Dyer...

The thing is, Walcott would have been playing prem football this year if Saints had stayed up. In 2004 a guy at work who regularly watches Saints youth tipped us off about him, he actually thought that he would have forced his way into the first team squad by the end of last season.

Of course, £15m or whatever is silly money, especially for a club like Arsenal with so many similar players (Henry/Reyes/Ljungberg/Pires/Hleb/Quincy). I can only imagine that if he signs, Pires must be on the way out.

This Adebayor on the other hand sounds interesting - I've never heard of him, but Wenger has finally listened to me after a few years of European failings and gone for something different, a tall physical player who will get in behind the defence, a traditional CF we can use as a plan B for when the walk-it-in approach isn't working against teams with a brain who sit back and defend deep rather than the suicidal offside traps a lot of Premiership teams attempt..

Surely an high class/experienced CB must be the next priority?

Don't have a clue who these 2 are but then again I didn't have a clue who Vieira, Anelka, Henry and Petit were when they joined us! Hope they turn out alright

Also what is this about Walcott joining us, someone needs to tell Wenger he is English, surely he thinks he is french or something ;)
