January Transfer Rumours

Impressive performers

Of those players, Vassiriki Diaby was a dominant presence in midfield, showing his versatility by regularly switching flanks throughout the final.

It was impossible not to think of Monsieur Wenger on Friday as the French No 4, Vassiriki Abou Diaby, bestrode the midfield. Paris-born, but of Ivorian origins, this already immense ball-winner looks as close as we are likely to see to Patrick Vieira. At almost 6ft 2ins, he is rangy and long-striding; he seems to motor all night, to enjoy getting his foot in to tackle. He sees situations so early, he rides tackles so strongly; his left foot is his natural one but he has no compunction about using the right to nick the ball or pass it a full range of distances.

Wenger said the other day that he is not looking for another Vieira, but now that Arsenal’s pursuit of Julio Baptista, the Brazilian forward, has been thwarted, perhaps a rethink is in order? Wenger knows where he must go to trade for the embryonic enforcer Diaby — to Auxerre, where for 40 years Guy Roux has procured gifted youths and slowly maturing them like his favourite wine. The blend of French-African qualities, the artistry grafted on to natural athletic quickness and build, is there... in Diaby

With Vassiriki Diaby orchestrating the midfield

The outstanding Diaby, so similar to Patrick Vieira in style and stature, was untouchable and he... proved to be too strong for England.

[The French Under-19's] fluidity, all impressive first touch, varied passing range and movement, was encapsulated by Vassiriki Diaby, a Patrick Vieira doppelganger who roamed across midfield and, despite being predominantly right-footed, also looked assured during prolonged stints on the left.

Just seen this on arsenal-mania, and I know the links don't work. Brings back memories of Vieira signing does this player but Vieira was more proven at the time.

The ones who is already there would cost us over £20mill and he would never win a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea if they start showing interest. Only player that come to mind is Diarra and we already tried for him, Baptista is another but will R.Madrid let him go?

Walcott may of actually signed?

It was then that the usually composed Arsenal boss had a slip of the tongue. 'We have signed three players this week,' he muttered, before quickly correcting himself and claiming it was only two, with the deal to sign Southampton wonder-kid Theo Walcott almost complete.

'I should correct that to two-and-a-half players,' he said, trying to drown out the belly laughs around the press room. 'Maybe you can expect another signing next week. You never know.'

You have an £18m rated striker that's only managed to force his way into the team for half a dozen full games this season ? didn't realize your squad was so strong :p
