January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

I don't even see what the Arsenal supporters problem is with Walcott, considering he's one of the more productive players. It's like he was the prodigy of Henry, so because he's not as good as he was, he's a total failure. Where as he is still a very good player.

Productive depends on what you mean by that. Will he get simple goals when played in behind the defence, sure.... but are there many players who won't? Does he finish every chance when played in behind, no, is he a better finisher than others, no, do 100's of players get played in behind without the need for pace, yes.

Standing on the shoulder of a defender and running in behind is timing, not pace, and finishing one on one with the keeper is something any professional player can do.

The majority of his goals are pretty damn easy, they are certainly nothing most players in the team couldn't do and any player can ignore the entire game and keep trying the same one thing every game.

The thing is, there are players that can do EVERYTHING he can, and are much better in their all around game. He's played on the wing, and rarely fights for the ball, almost never helps defensively, rarely gets crosses right, and rarely creates well for others. He can be effective for 3% of any given game, other players can be effective with and without the ball across 100% of a game. Arsenal aren't winning titles because we have FAR too many players in the team who offer very little throughout a game.

Should we also point out that with negotiations being a bit tougher than usual for Walcott.... he's put in his highest work rate games EVER for Arsenal in the past 1-2 months... while not being offered the contract he wants?

Since he joined he's been on too much money, hasn't given a crap about the team, hasn't worked hard, refuses to fight for the ball, refuses to do much of anything, and the very first time his contract renewal is a problem, we see an improved(work rate) player almost straight away? Look at Diaby, Rosicky, Djourou, Sagna and several others, what happens if we give him 100k a week.... he'll spend 3.5 years doing smeg all again, safe, offering nothing, winning nothing, then play harder for 2 months to get a new contract?

I've had enough of him, enough of his type of player and enough of Wenger giving in to mediocre players.

I always thought Chamakh is on £80k/week as well.

As for the problem some fans have with Walcott it is not so much because he's not as good as Henry, more that some believe he's not as good as Ljungberg, Pires, Wiltord, Reyes, Hleb, Arshavin, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc. Until last season he suffered from a major lack of composure and would put in a lot of tame shots and bad crosses. There have been some games where he has been very effective; the problem is consistency.

Then you have the wage thing, he's on £60k/week, offered £75k/week, wants £100k/week. Walcott is not, and already at the age of 24 before the end of the season never has the potential to become, a player truly worth over £5m/year.

This in a nutshell, hes far too inconsistent for someone who wants £100k a week. This year he seems to be playing better but thats due to him wanting a new contract from Arsenal IMHO. Theres no guarantees that if we give him £100k a week that he will keep up his good performances or even do better.

Meh im not even all that bothered if he goes in Jan or in the summer. Any club willing to give him a £100k a week is absolutely and truly nuts. No way in hell hes worth that much and the sooner he realises that the better for him.

As inconsistent as Walcott is I'd take him over Gervinho in a second. Theo is not worth £100,000 a week or whatever the current rumoured figure is, he's worth nowhere near it, he'd be a decent squad player when he decides he can be bothered to turn up.

I didn't want to judge Gervinho last season as I felt he needed time to settle in, both on the pitch and off it. He's had more than enough time to get used to the players around him and to get used to the rest of British life and he hasn't improved at all, how he outscored and outassisted Hazard I'll never know.

We desperately need good wide players, Podolski should be played up front in his favoured position and we should just bring in an actual winger. I actually like Giroud but our tactics haven't changed one iota to accomodate the type of player he is, you can just look at yesterday's game as an example of that. So many times the winger (usually Gervinho) was in a good position to put a first time ball into the box but instead delayed and delayed, by which point the defence were already in position and any threat that Giroud offered was nullified. There was also that horrific **** up where we should absolutely have scored except someone (may have been AOC) took so long to cross and actually just ended up crossing it along the floor to Myhill.

I'm not sure if tactics need to change, or if we need new players, or a combination of the two. We just have to hope that the likes of Gnabry and Miyaichi come good for us because Wenger's purchases are getting more and more bizarre and with our lack of quality out wide we really do need to look at bringing in some more efficient 'proper' wingers.

The problem is that Walcott is out best wide player by a considerable distance. He's also pretty much our most productive player in terms of goals and assists again this season. Yes he's not worth 100k (i thought he was asking for 80k?) but if we sell him, we'll not get much as he has 6 months left and we'll end up replacing him with a worse player. I'm pretty sure all Arsenal fans are used to that pattern and it needs to stop. We consistently lose our best players and replace them with worse ones. We need to stop the cycle, keep our bets players and start buying some quality, restructuring our wage ceiling if need be.

Careful. Don't say anything good about Walcott, you'll antagonise the Drunkenmaster.

Mark Beevers: Millwall to sign Sheffield Wednesday defender

BBC Link.

 Why? Why the **** are we selling Beevers?

Also;

Dave Jones: Sheffield Wednesday boss 'will not step down'

BBC Link.

Looks like Mr Mandaric is going to have to sack him then.

Goal.com aka usual useless info reporting Arsenal will make a bid fo Reina in Jan and that he is open to a move and would take a pay cut to go there. Cant see it personally i mean its not like at the moment Arsenal are flying above us + rate Wenger going he might not make it to jan :p

That transfer would make little sense. The Goalkeeper is practically the only position that doesn't need changing.

Like I said before I'd have Walcott at United, I think he'd be a really handy super sub given his pace (and I've always thought he was a pretty good finisher as well). I doubt he'd want to join in that capacity though so I reckon he'll go to Liverpool

I'd take him over Young tbh (mind you I'd rather we kept Tosic than had Young)

I've never understood whhy Tosic wasn't given a run in the first team, he looked a very tidy player to me but a bit lightweight. Any insider information from the Manchester United fans on here as to why he never got a decent run?

Really enjoyed signing him on FM too /unrelated :p

Sagna is almost certainly going too.

Yep seems like the rot has truly set in:(, mind you he didnt have a very good game last night and since that broken leg...again he isnt the player he used to be.

Meh looking forward to Wenger signing some more mediocre players in the next few yrs:p

I couldn't care less if Sagna stays or leaves, he's defensively retarded and he can't put a good cross in to save his life. A headed goal in a derby doesn't make up for the fact he's rubbish at the other end of the pitch, he should be defending first and foremost, not overlapping and then not bothering to go back into position when a move breaks down. Walcott can go as well, he isn't worth anywhere near the rumoured wage increase that he's looking for. I don't think his first touch is good enough to play up front either, sure he has bags of pace but if you can't control a football consistently what's the point?
