January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Apparently Remy to Toon is a done deal.

Decent signing especially as he can play on the left.

Source? If it's the same source as Debuchy in the summer I won't hold my breath.

This can only mean Ba is gone too. As another striker/left winger is not what we need.

EDIT: I've just read that either Marveaux or Obertan will be part of the deal. I'm not keen on this, as it's not strengthening our team at all. Marveaux is a quality player, but obviously he is temperamental, just like Ben Arfa, and Pardew doesn't want to deal with him. Which is a shame as he is 10 times the player Gutierrez is. Obertan is frustrating, apparently in training he is a beast! But when he's put on the stage he often fails to deliver. He has all the attributes to be a top player as well.

So this deal looks like an unproven player, in a swap for a player which we know has quality but is a little hard to manage. And also probably loosing Ba too. So 1 player in 2 players out. This is NOT what NUFC need...

Gutierez is great, he just works hard defensively, though he's been pretty poor this season but pretty much the reason your left backs have looked decent for the past 3 years. Obertan should go, offers nothing, Marveaux hasn't looked bad but is only just coming into the team after a long/bad injury, he looks decent but has had games against mostly poor opposition IIRC so bit tough to judge how he'd be in big games and week in week out.

Remy, at the moment Cisse having lost his form has been mostly switched with Ba and playing the wider/deeper role rather than upfront with Ba wide left like last season. Not much choice with Cisse being no where near form he had to push Ba upfront to let someone get goals. Cisse, its tough, who really predicted that severe a drop in form. While people bang on at Pards because its a tough spell, you deserved a draw against City for that second half and if Cisse had any form at all he'd have gotten at the very least 1 to draw level and maybe more. Someone to play ahead of Obertan(who just isn't good enough) and someone to let Cisse be rested IS what you need.

Likewise with Ba on the form he's been in for 2 years, you can't realistically hope to hang on to him, thats life with ANY club. Strikers move on from utd, Real, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barca and Newcastle aren't magic you can't never buy another top striker and pretend Ba will never leave, if you do, when he leaves you'll be screwed.

I think Ba should and probably will stay till the end of the season, but what you want is someone to get some games, let Ba rest, let Cisse rotate in and out, give Cisse some real competition and hunger(would any manager drop him long term for Ameobi.... lol ). That way if Ba goes in summer which I see as likely you both, have a striker who has 6 months in the team, and hopefully some form. Otherwise you start next year with no form striker and hope anyone you buy can come in firing, if not, you're screwed again.

Remy would make sense if you keep Ba or if you sell him. That would only be 3 "proper" strikers, give Cisse some motivation to get back to form, and cover, what happens if Ba gets injured between xmas and the end of the season?

It's not the only thing Newcastle need, but they definitely need a third real striker, neither Ameobi cut it, at all, nor Ranger(if he's not in jail).

You do need a third striker, but you also need a top CB and a top fullback, the guy whose name I can't remember, starts with a G i think, scored a cracker, and Anita have both at points played at right back, but both seem better in central midfield. Not convinced of Anita but you never know, you've got numbers there. You need a CB to help with injury issues, and someone who can play more in the Cabaye role as cover.. though Marveaux looks promising there.

I see you points however:

We don't need a 3rd striker at present. We only play with 1 upfront anyway!

Gutierrez is not great, he was OK last season, he used to get into players faces and often get lots of free kicks which would relieve the pressure on the team. Now he stands off all the time, and offer nothing going fowards.

We desperately need a CB. Williamson just cannot play at this level anymore, he gets the ball and punts it up field because he cannot pass to save his life. Defensively he makes several errors. Simpson is not the player he used to be, OK he has always been terrible going forwards, but now he is terrible at defending, and has cost us many times this season with balls from the left wing.

Once we have sealed up that part of the team we can start to look at 3rd strikers etc....

I think Remy would be a good signing as long as it meant we could keep Ba and Obertan/Marveuax. As Ideally we need another attacking winger. And we then need to rotate Ba and Cisse as the lone striker. Imagine Ba upfront with Ben Arfa and Remy either side!! With Cisse to come in the 70th!!! Nice options to have.

I understand your point about Ba, football is no longer a game of honesty and loyalty. More about money and lifestyle...

David Villa on loan is an amazing deal for anyone if it comes off. You could see him at Chelsea since we are no longer in the CL.

His problems at Barca are well documented and to be fair when you have a choice between amazing and god you go for God, even if that means sacrificing (literally) amazing.

Obertan and Marvaeux are useless. You get one good game in ten the rest of the time they are a waste of oxygen. Apparently Remy plays on the left of a strike line so swapping him for Marveaux (and the extra cash) is a good deal. As a full international it's hardly unproven.

Guti is a great player. He is not the best attacking but offers so much defensively which is what we need. If Ba leaves, which seems likely, you could have a front 3 Remy/Cisse/Arfa which is decent enough and with Cisse down the middle he might get his touch back.

I agree we need a CB, Williamson is a god awful disgrace. Add in a FB and another CM and we will be looking a lot better. Ideally we need to lose no one and get a striker, CM, FB and CB. Lose someone I.e. Ba and we need to replace them as well as add.

Fergie said in this mornings press conference that Giggs could play for another 2 years, he also rejected reports (not that I've read any) that Scholes and Rio will also leave United this summer..... please god dont make that mean no more midfielders this summer either :(

In better news Evans has signed a new 3 year contract

According to persistent reports Butland will join us in very early days of Jan window allong with Ince/Sturridge.

Tbh i dont really dislike any of the players to point i dont think there good enough though it baffles me as to why we left Ince go in the first place

Is Evans playing better.

I remember a season or so ago when ManU fans would mercilessly bash him at every opportunity.

I don't remember bashing him too much myself, I've always liked him and the last 18 months he has really developed. People overlook the fact that when we set our record run of clean sheets a few years back he was a regular alongside Vidic as well.

I think people get upset because we let Pique leave and kept Evans, but I think in the years to come we will find out why. Even now I'd say they are performing similarly.

Even now Giggs and Scholes are becoming marginal, pointless players. Look at Neville, just go out when the time is right before you completely embarrass yourselves. :( If you still want to play, fair enough, but it'll need to be at a lower level. It should never have come to a point where we cringe when we see them in the starting XI as we do now.

In the build up to the City game people asked me if I thought United would win, and I said only if Giggs and Scholes don't play. And lo and behold...

Here's my take on Evans.... he's no Vidic obviously (at Vida's best), in terms of potential I still place Smalling ahead of him and should Rio and Vidic call it a day tomorrow we'd need to sign a top class centre back rather than go with what we've got (i.e. Jones, Smalling and Evans) but yeah Evans has come on loads since his dodgy 2 years (he was great in his debut season 08/09, then had his rubbish couple of seasons 09/10 and 10/11 but really turned his form around last season and this). He's (still) a young defender so it's to be expected that he's taken his time to mature.

If you believe the stories, he rejected all offered contracts in favour of going somewhere else for more playing time. Only so much you can do.

Scholes I think can still do a job - we wouldn't of come as close as we did to winning the league last year had Scholes not came out of retirement, Giggs though is done and like you say you would hope he'd of had a Neville moment after some of his performances this season and realised he's no longer good enough. Unlike Scholes though Giggs has never shown any indication he's ready to retire :(

I'll take Butland as Pepe's form is alarmingly worrying - the other 2 just don't fill me with confidence at all though.

Even Scholes is knackered, when we have the ball it's fine but when we don't it's like being a man down.

Would love Butland but I'm not sure about Ince and I don't want Sturridge.

We've been burnt buying from Blackpool before and I'd question whether a few goals in the Champions will translate to the goals we need in the Premiership. I'd also question why Ince was released if he was good enough in the first place.

If we buy Sturridge we could end up with a striker than converts 1 in 23,900,000,0001 and Borini who didn't look remotely good enough before he was injured to rectify our goal problems. Not money well spent and I'm beginning to get slightly concerned with the direction Rodgers is taking us.

Yup. I'm also looking forward to Kagawa coming back, he can play the left wing role in Young's place and alternate with Rooney just behind RvP. Gives us a really fluid system.

Midfield of:

Valencia - Ando - Cleverley - Kagawa

With Rooney and RVP ahead, the interchange between Kagawa and Rooney along with RVP would be brilliant

It's worrying that Fergie is saying that, it just makes him look like a complete fool.

I had taken it for granted that Giggs and Scholes were going at the end of the season. They just can't hack it any more, it's terrible watching 2 great players who have been such servants to the club becoming such a burden.
