January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

I was going to reply, but then I saw Nasri in the list of people better than Pires.. Now I think maybe it's bait?

Rafael has been one of our best players this year

Going forward he's pretty handy but he couldn't defend to save his life, can't tackle, no positioning, can't bully anyone off the ball, the list goes on.

Basically a right winger playing at rb in the hope having 2 means united will score more than they let in...

United need to sign a LB/RB - Rafeal is no defender and Evra is on his last legs if you ask me. Butner just hasn't impressed at all. He should go out on loan for a season or two.

Rafeal and Evera are pretty much exactly the same, good going forward, terrible defensively. Was so surprised when we played them in september and there was just 2 at the back in the middle with no protection on the wings at all.

So glad we didn't bother with Butner now, looks shocking, we said no when his dad rocked up demanding transfer money, seems like the best move ever :D

You really can't have seen him this season.

Just not the case at all, his defending has improved vastly this season. He's actually a very good tackler and his positioning has improved dramatically. He's not very strong in the air but that just won't change.

Couple that with being better going forwards than all our wingers this season and he's an integral cog :)

I've seen you elude to the league game between your lot and our lot quite a lot (lol) when you're talking about United players, makes me wonder if that's the only time you've ever actually seen the team play?

This post is amusing, 4 stars.

Tito Vilanova's had a relapse re: his cancer, not that I knew much about him. He's not going to be the Barcelona manager for the time being, so it'll be interesting to see what they do - they could just get someone from inside, of course... but it'd put the cat amongst the pigeons if Guardiola went back .

Awful news

Pires was slightly better than Downing pre-Liverpool.

Off the top of my head, better left wingers in the Prem era:

Giggs
Ronaldo
Kewell
Robinho
Modric
Silva
Nasri
Overmars
Ginola
Speed

Even Ljungberg was better.

Madness, he was a CM who was played out of position, he never went down the left ALWAYS came inside......god I miss rat boy

He was on the left whenever they didn't have the ball, and had they had a decent central midfield he would've been out left.

Pires was probably the most underrated player in the league. A video of his goals is phenomenal. I think its against Southampton the ball falls and he just puts it in the back of the net from the half way line or there abouts, another epic long range goal, the Villa one IIRC where he held someone off, flicked it over their head then lobbed the great Dane.

A buttload of simple but brilliant curled efforts into the top corners, and brilliant all around play setting others up. He was a winger and there was basically one season in the league he didn't have a slightly better than 1 goal in every 2 games ratio, that is phenomenal. 19 games 9 goals, 21 games 14 goals, 33 games 14 goals, 26 games 14 goals, 23 games 7 goals in his last season.

In Gigg's highest scoring season in the league it was 8 goals in 33 games(i'm going by starts mostly for both players).

There are few wingers full stop who have matched or better that kind of scoring rate, Ronaldo, and not in all his seasons.

Pires was SO good I don't even know who I prefer out of Pires/Henry.

Only question mark over Pires for me is would he of been even better had he not done his cruciate? At his best Pires was one of the best players in the world, genuine world class talent.

You can perhaps make a case for the others but these:

Robinho
Modric
Silva
Nasri

Are either not left wingers or not fit to lace Pires' boots and I hated that horse-faced French ****.

Good to see Arsenal securing the services of 5 players that have played a major role in their recent mediocrity for the next few years.

Some people recognise how brilliant he was, but not many, most people seem to think he was just another winger, not one of the best few players in the league.

There was just something epic about the ease with which he did everything, same way Berbatov just has that vision/touch/ability, neither are insanely fast, hugely strong, its all talent with no helping hand from being absurdly fast/strong/etc.

In terms of Arsenal Jenks is actually decent, Gibbs isn't, at all, Wilshire is an amazingly good player but him alone won't do anything. Good to see he doesn't have early "I want to go to a club actually winning stuff" syndrome that I expect he'll eventually get. Ramsey is utterly pointless and Chamberlain.... time will tell. Theres a lot exciting about his play, but still his end product is mostly very poor crossing, not great shooting, and he's not the best passer in the world either. At least he looks like with a little improvement he could become very good. Gibbs simple does not know how to defend, at all, and Ramsey has just been crap for two years.
