January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Both the manager and the player have said as recently as this season that Rooney is a striker so no Frank it's not as you put it pure and simple that another striker coming in means him playing in midfield.

and yet even more recently he has been played in AM positions a number of times in several competitions, so that doesnt add up

When has SAF ever told the whole truth to the press in regards to a CURRENT issue .... rarely

VDV had made it no secret of his desire to return to germany as his wife lives there and he was hardly seeing her. couple that with redknapp going (they got on well) and AVB coming in and sig being signed and it kinda made sense.

he only game i remember him playing for us this season was against newcastle and he was poor tbh but there were other times he was great and it's a shame we lost him. he had great creativity and i miss him. seemed a top bloke. he was only with us 2 seasons and made a great impact and was a fans fav.

he still has a lot of love for spurs but i doubt we'd ever sign him again. we got him for a bargain £8m, got 2 seasons out of him and sold him for £10m. still a bargain, even if he couldn't play 90 or track back properly.

Reason enough to go back, she is insanely hot!

this time last year, you'd have been replacing michu with ba or cisse.

i agree with what you say to an extent with clubs scouting for unknowns (though michu could go the same way as ba and cisse, ie a burnout)

there's no way sneidjer could've had the career he has by blagging it. the biggest worry for me as a spurs fan is his age. at 28, he's not a long term solution.

VDV being sold was a mistake. ok the bloke couldn't play 90 but he added something we hadn't had for a long time and was also a good dressing room character. if sneidjer could bring a bit of that back, i''d love it. the thought of a spine of dembele, sneijder and sandro is a nice one.

in other spurs news,, friedel has signed and extension to 2014.

Ba has hardly burnt out, top or second top PL scorer this year. :p

Cisse has not burned out either. He been playing on the right wing!

Let him play in Ba's role and he will start banging them in again like he netted that one against Man U. Was by far the best goal of the game

Actually no, since both Rooney and SAF last said Rooney is still very much a striker we haven't played the diamond formation since

Rooney has still played wide or as a straight AM in midfield since then

First time the formation around him has been mentioned

I cant see SAF wanting 5 strikers in the squad for any significant length of time, unless you think Rooney will be sold (which is highly unlikely currently), the only other striker likely to go from a contract pov is Chicharito and Im not sure why he would be sold (from a performance pov) over Welbeck. Unless Welbeck is going to become a winger, which isnt going to happen.

Rooney has been moved wide in games but again he hasn't started in midfield since both the manager and the player reiterated he was a striker (I feel like I'm repeating myself now)

If spurs get Sneijder I will **** in my hands and clap. That's how likely they are to getting him. I really do hope Arsenal sign someone decent like Lewis Holtby/Gotze. Imagine Gotze and Wilshire together in midfield. Best CM combo for a decade

Holtby will not be signing a new contract and is going to leave Shalke in the summer. Come on Bill get your cheque book out!! Him and his Dad paraded around Goodison soon enough!

I can't see Arsenal paying more than £10m for Villa at his age, a loan would be far more likely (from our side at least). I can't remember Wenger ever paying anything remotely close to that for a player over 30, the highest I can think of was Squillacci at £4-6m depending on where you read.

I'd disagree they got Song for cheap though, £16m was no less than his worth.

QPR have made a bid for Diame at West Ham, would be very unfortunate for West Ham to lose him having only signed him 6 months ago

I agree we got him for way way way MORE than he was worth.. notice their defence has gotten even worse and ours has improved despite all the individual errors from our full backs mostly but CB's as well... purely because our central mid has improved so much by not having him there.

As for Villa, it doesn't matter, its as simple as that, if we offer 16mil, or 30mil, Chelsea match it and offer Villa 50-100% higher wages than we do, and he goes to Chelsea.

From Villa's point of view he can hook up with a team that has won pretty much every cup going, some multiple times, since the last time we looked remotely close to a cup.

Play alongside Gervinho, or Mata, Walcott or Hazard, Cole or Santos, etc, etc, etc. I mean sensible thinking would be he would be more likely to be first team and more likely to start as an out and out striker at Arsenal.... but its Arsenal, there is no reason Gervinho has started a game over anyone else at the club, but still does. No reason anyone would ever drop Pires for Hleb, but Wenger did. Any other manager in the world would pick Villa over Gervinho/Giroud/anyone else at Arsenal, Wenger..... a completely illogical buffoon for years I wouldn't make that guarentee. I'd still go Chelsea and win cups and play 2/3rd's of the games in various positions than go Arsenal and play all games in your favoured position and hopefully scrape 4th position.

We've got next to zero chance of getting him even if Wenger did want to pay up to get him.

Not really, they'd likely make a decent profit, he's mostly rubbish. Up till the game recently where he came on in the second half and was excellent for 25 mins, he's been meh. He's got zero fitness, he usually plays well for the first 15-25 mins of a game without actually being effective... lots of powerful runs where the final pass or shot is rubbish, then 25 mins in he becomes a lazy, fouling, useless waste of space. He can look a bit like Yaya in his "I have energy" phase, just without any real quality, just power and good movement, but then like Yaya he runs out of steam and becomes completely ineffective except again without the quality so the very few and far between runs he will make are still mostly ineffective, he also tires around the 30 min mark rather than the 60min mark that Yaya does.

If West Ham can make a profit and get someone who can be effective for 70+ mins of every game they'll be doing very well business/squad wise.
