It's pretty damn obvious to everyone that he wasn't going to write off the team until Moyes had. If moyes is saying he hasn't given up yet, then Fergie would hardly write it off publically.

Yes Fergie even in private 100% believes Manu can still win the title and is in no way backing his manager who currently thinks it's not over.

he was being daft, it's pretty clear what you meant/said, I'm not sure it would be regarded as a saying but the concept of people saying something publicly they don't believe privately is not new. You were pretty clearly saying "while he may say that, privately could be an entirely different matter".
 
Is it realistically too late for Man Utd to sign another player?

Mata is only the start, surely? We need at least another new signing now then 2/3 more in the summer.

Never really followed the transfer window to this extent before.

It's not too late at all, it just depends who is available. Hopefully something can be done.

Clearly we don't lack ambition, at least.

Player has to be registered to a club by the 31st. Contract(s) have to be deposited by the 31st.

That also means though, that if he is registered, he is part of the club, i.e. he can play for you and no other team.

I do still expect mata to go. But now Liverpool are challenging us for Salah, that may drag things on a bit. In the unlikely event we miss out on him then we don't have a replacement for Mata and won't let him go. So this Salah deal is quite major.

I suspect it's already a done deal beyond the point where Chelsea can pull out, and there's no real danger of them not getting Salah, at least.
