January Transfer Window

Think Defoe would do a good job. I cant get my head round Berbatov for the simple fact that it would leave us with three strikers who cost £25m + and would expect, on form, to be first choice. Its not always having the best players that make the best team. Yorke Cole Ole and Teddy worked because they knew they wouldnt all play every week and were able to accept being on the bench. Im not sure Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov would find the idea so acceptable.

Whilst Brown's contract is up in the summer. I don't see the sense in cashing in in January when we don't have anyone else at RB. Neville is taking ages to come back, O'Shea is an option but not as good as Brown, and Simpson doesn't look good enough from what I've seen. Unless Fergie sticks OH in there.

Seems a bit pricy to me! I dont suppose Wes has a great value in transfer fee terms with his contract coming up but I cant see Spus offering him a bigger contract than we have?

If Fergie has actually offered that he must have another full back up his sleeve as well. He's not usually a fan of doing a lot of deals in Jan but who knows!

Which 8-0 game did Torres play in Frank? And which game is being investigated?

.

Appologies I thought he scored in your Besiktas 8-0 victory , it was rumoured that this was being investigated because of Betfair issues (ie the Greeks being paid off, as they had all but been eliminated anyway). Fully admit my memory is wrong he didnt play/score in that game :)

Defoe rumour starting again I see - this crops up just as frequently as the Berba rumour (its certainly been happening for longer). Maybe Defoe would work, Im just not convinced about him, I dont think he is a match winner at all , maybe on the odd occasion but not like an FA Cup or CL knock out type of game

25 games left to play in just over four months (and thats only with a moderate CL and FA Cup run) there are still plenty of games to play for a decent player (especially if you count sub appearances)

Ah well then, using that logic he'll be off for £3.5m then.

The fact every CL club and his dog will be after him has nothing to do with it...

Well obviously not that stupid, but i dont think he'll go for as much as people are expecting. £30m was touted for Torres, which turned into £20m. I expect Berbatov will probably for around the same. Bent at £16m was laughable and can hardly be used a yard stick for other transfers.

Problem for Spurs is that that IS THEIR yardstick!! As they've spent £16m on Bent they're gonna look absolutely ridiculuous if they let Berbatov go for not much more. The credibility of their board would be even worse than it is now!

Yep he didn't play and Uefa came out and denied that that game was being investigated as well.

Also i think you mean Turks not Greeks ;)

If Berbatov made it clear he wanted to leave and was specific about which club he'd join then that would force the price down though i'd imagine it would still be at least £20m though. If he was happy to join any club then it could be more but i doubt it'll go much more than £28-30m.

I can't understand Wes Brown.
He spent years at the club, always a reserve, seemingly waiting for his chance.
Now he has it, has been playing each match for months and Neville has apparently died or something...And he seems happy to leave. Bizarre.

Perhaps we wouldn't be being linked to others if he had signed. Still, right now he is our first choice and the position is his for the taking. For years he showed a lot of patience and faith in his ability by always staying and trying to break into the team. I would have thought he would see now as his big chance to make it worth while.

I would say £20m is about right but if i was a Spurs fan id be pretty horrified at the concept of only getting £4m more back for him than was paid for Bent!! It just makes the Bent deal look worse and worse.

It comes down to the old Ole argument again really. Would you rather play 25 games a season in a team winning the league and in Champs League or play 45/50 games in a lesser side challenging for Europe at best. Ole made his choice and ended up with many winners medals and vital goals to look back on.

I'd be quite happy to have Wes as the first choice right back however if he think he's bigger than the club then he should be sold in January so we can get something for him, I can't see it happening however.

Spurs expected a decent offer to come in for Berbatov in the summer thats why they bought bent, they pre empted a not forthcoming offer from one of the "big four".

Nobody wants him, whats so hard to except about that? He's a miserable, lazy, paceless, over rated target man.
We had a miserable target man who was 5 times the player he was and we got shot of him, why is so hard to understand that nobody wants him.
