January Transfer Window

I do think he's quality, but as I said at this point last New Year and again in the Summer, I'd take someone fast like Anelka over Berbatov. It makes no sense having 3 'slow' front men, I'd rather have that option on the bench to have pace up front (as well as a top, top finisher).

Rooney isn't slow, it's a common misconception, hence the 'slow' above, however, Anelka is a lot quicker. He has a fantastic running style and I don't think there is anyone better at playing off the shoulder of the last defender in the Premiership bar perhaps Michael Owen.

Yep he didn't play and Uefa came out and denied that that game was being investigated as well.

Also i think you mean Turks not Greeks ;)

I put Olympiakos to start with and then forgot to change that - ok fair enough, I just heard reports that it was being investigated but no problem

I never said Rooney was slow, but both him and Anelka aren't the quickest players going around.

You're right about him playing very well off the last man, but that's due to his game intelligence and timing of his runs rather than his speed. You mention Michael Owen as well who's also excellent at playing off the shoulder, he hasn't got blistering pace either these days.

If you're loking for that type of player though, there's not many better than Anelka. And you'd probably get him cheap as he'd jump at the chance of playing for a big club again (as he said himself). I wouldn't mind seeing him back at Liverpool, he's miles better than Kuyt and Voronin :(

Anelka isn't that quick, he's marginally faster than Rooney at best.

That is, compared to someone lightning fast like Defoe.

Anelka has unbelievable acceleration. I'm amazed a Liverpool fan could come out and say he isn't quick, I mean I remember one game he played for them where he just set off from just inside his own half and was running nearly at full speed within 5-10 yards. Over a very short distance I'd say he's probably quicker than Henry.

Nobody wants him, whats so hard to except about that? He's a miserable, lazy, paceless, over rated target man.
We had a miserable target man who was 5 times the player he was and we got shot of him, why is so hard to understand that nobody wants him.

You are clearly taking overly extreme positions. Berbatov is not a simple target man, nor was RVN (who I assume you are referring to). Furthermore the comparison between the two likens them both as target men - when in truth they are quite different players. RVN is the supreme finisher that is an all out goal getter when provided with chances. He was sold in part because of his failure to adapt to your new style of all out pace attack, where you needed someone to form a partnership with your other front men.

Berbatov is far more creative and managers see him as a link man to other areas of attack. Simply because of his arerial prowess (which you overstated) he is not a target man; look at his position in the game and he assumes a sheringham like position mostly. He plays with Keane who plays right on the shoulder of defences.

And it is not a matter on no one wanting him rather clubs wistful that they missed him a move too late. All of the top four would have him if he was as visible now but still at Bayer Lev.; but he has him prem move which in turn gets the inflated price.

So it is hard to accept (not except as you say) because you speak so clinically on the matter.

Oh and on the Anelka isn't that quick comment - what tripe. One of the fastest players about in the right areas. Wenger always said he was a like for like with Henry - with henry liking coming in from the left and anelka on the right channels.

Spurs expected a decent offer to come in for Berbatov in the summer thats why they bought bent, they pre empted a not forthcoming offer from one of the "big four".

Nonsense.

If nobody wants him then Spurs dont have a problem. The problem is clubs do want him and he obviously wants to go. What so hard to 'except' that if Spurs dont sell for a lot more than £20m it makes the fee they paid for Bent look even more stupid?

Latest Sunderland rumour based on what a man in the pub said last night

Greg Halford and Anthony Stokes have been sacked for drug use:eek:

Not sure how true it is but there's lots of rumours flying about and they've both been bombed out of the first team squad in recent weeks

Personally I hope it's not true, we paid 5.5million for those two and despite them both being very average thats too much money to chuck away

I thought Stokes was supposed to be a decent youngster, has that turned out not to be the case?

He's ok I suppose, a decent championship player for somebody maybe. Keane went through a phase of bringing him on every game for 20 mins and he never shows any signs of doing anything. Brilliant in training apparently:o

Nobody has even inquired about him.

I tell you what, i bet you £20 that he doesnt move now or in the summer to a side that finishes in the top four at the end of the season.

The Times seems to think that Man Utd actually enquired about him 4 weeks ago (maybe just the wording but it just sounds more viable from them - if it was the mirror or someone saying the same thing it would be meaningless)

Only thing is Spurs do not want to sell him and will try everything in their power to keep him. This might be enough, who knows? If Berbatov stays it won't be because nobody wanted him. If he does move then it will be to a team who can offer him CL football, there's no bigger club than Spurs without it.

Well i have no idea whether he will move or not to be honest but its well wide of the mark to suggest that no-one wants him or would want him and i'm not sure how you can be so certain that nobody had enquired about him?

As it happens i would rather Man Utd signed Defoe but not because I dont rate Berbatov more that i dont see how you keep 3 £20m+ strikers happy all the time when only 2 can be seen as first choice.

The point that if Spurs sell either it will inevitably be for an amount of money that makes Bent look like an even worse buy still stands.
