Japan ex-PM Abe assassinated in shooting

A quick death seems like mercy to me.

RIP.

Not having the state (your taxes) subsidise scum for the rest of their lives seems like a mercy to taxpayers to me. I don't care if its a mercy to the criminal or not. I know blah blah blah, how can you be absolutely sure they're guilty for other cases. But for cases like this where it's 100% certain he's guilty. Life in jail for them is a joke.

I'm pretty certain that it is actually more expensive to sentence someone to death than it is for life without parole. This is because of the repeated appeals process that can keep happening, right up until the day that the death warrant is issued. This ends up being more costly than keeping someone alive behind bars for 50 years.

Being anti-proliferation of ballistic arms doesn't mean it's impossible as where there's a will there is always a way.

The fact that his gun was homemade just proves that Japan's gun regulation works and that the failing was lax security measures partly brought about by hubris over those gun regulations. I suspect this is a mistake they won't be making again.

No matter how strict the rules, someone with the right knowledge can put together a crude firearm/blunderbuss from household materials, there is no real stopping that - fortunately crazy/motivation and the knowledge to do that rarely coincide.

The Japanese should flog him to death, something they have previously shown considerable expertise at. Whilst I have no real qualms with the current generation of Japanese it should never be forgotten how they grossly mistreated prisoners of war. There are still many people alive today who wouldn't dream, for example, of buying a Japanese car, based on what dreadful things occurred to their grandparents. I am not saying Abe was a bad guy, probably far from it, but this emotional rush of blood to the head about how "nice" ***inappropriate slur*** are needs a bit of tempering...

And my point is for cut and dry cases like this, just crack on with it. There is no appeal necessary. The guy murdered someone in cold blood, photos and videos everywhere. He is a waste of space, time and money.

What are you even doing? Disgraceful

Well, it appears a commonly and to me harmless abbreviation of Japanese people ,that I use daily, without any condemnation whatsoever, on umpteen different car forums, has fallen foul of our moderators.

But that aside I am drawing attention to the well documented prison of war abuses the Japanese used. Do you consider this any different to drawing attention to Nazi atrocities? Whilst the slaughter of an apparently gentlemanly, honest and conscientious ex PM is to be abhorred, there was a tendency for some to forget that Japan has a singularly dark side to her history, and blindly say what a law abiding race they are. If that is disgraceful in your opinion, so be it, I stand behind my reminder.

Chris if you want to start a thread about that do it.
This is NOT the place for it, especially when the word you are using is very well known as being a slur, especially when used in certain contexts and certain ways.

RIP to the former Japanese PM.

He always seemed like a good guy from what I saw of him on the news.

Very classy stuff from the resident chief xenophobe. A nice bit of whataboutism sprinkled on top for good measure.
It's ok mods have censored the slur but left up the rest of the xenophobic piece in a thread about the very recent assassinated Japanese Prime Minister. Thank god for the mods

And I was going to thank you for a balanced reply post most worthy of a man of honour, but it seems you have backtracked in an effort at populism... :(

It just got complicated balancing across multiple factors and the level of culpability of society while also not trying to gloss over that you can have undesirable cultures/societies as a whole as well.

Ironically, such people try to claim some sort of moral high ground and 'awareness' that others don't have. All whilst showing a complete lack of self-awareness.

Lots of world leaders praising Abe today, while quietly glossing over the more unsavoury aspects of his politics.

I am sure that you are most certainly aware that your ancestors created concentration camps, we're massive proponents of slavery, colonial conquest and genocide of whole hosts of other races nations tribes etc.

So the mistreatment of POWs is small fry in comparison to your very Rose tinted blinkered world view.
I ponder if you are precisely what was wrong with the empire, and then the commonwealth and why such things are now dying, when unfortunately the better aspects of such would be great on a world stage currently.

Shame

Aye like every damn politician everywhere, if someone shot Boris, people would find nice things to say, when frankly objectively it would be very hard to do so.

Has the killer said why he did it yet, I can't find info on such?
