Japanese Grand Prix 2011, Suzuka Circuit - Race 15/19

No matter what pressure has been on him, no matter what the press have said about him, no matter what team politics and arguments with his team mate have been going on, Vettel has repeatedly pulled away from the line, and banged in 2 laps 1 second faster than everyone else.

The guy has won the WDC by simply being the fastest, which in its purest form, is what racing is all about.

Have to agree. Love him or hate him - he's the undisputed champion.

How about you back your opinion up with something?

No thanks you bore me now, have a look at the title standings on your own :)

compare them in McLaren and you have your answer, using your mirrors is also a skill :) managing your tyres is a skill, managing your race is a skill, not dissing your own team is a skill, not ramming as many cars as you can is a skill.....

These threads become so so so tiresome once the race is over, same old tripe over and over.

Kinda wish these threads got locked at midnight on a Sunday or there was a separate thread for the inevitable post race discussion as to who is the better driver.

:(

You could set one up? One was started to take the "current F1 is not as good as it was in X decade" arguments out of these threads, and it worked quite well.

The issue with the driver comparison discussions is that they are generally discussions based on the race that the thread is about, so they are relevant.

I've no interest really in discussing/arguing over who the better driver is really, so wouldn't make sense for me to start a topic about it. For those that are interested, please do!

I just think these discussions are very repetitive and a bit off topic. Would rather see more relevant conversation/news once the race is over in these threads.

No no, I meant start a topic for others to clean the conversation out of these threads. Then these threads stay on track.

However, I do think you will struggle to clean this kind of stuff out as it is related to the races that happen.

If you want, you can unsubscribe from this thread?

Most people who are just interested in the thread on race day, unsubscribe, after the race is done.

Also, if we aren't going to talk about other F1 related stuff, in a thread about a race which has finished, what are we going to talk about?

Yeah agreed :)

Nobody ever changes opinions and we can spend all day going on and on about the same thing, pointless and Skeeter is to blame :D

I've no problem whatsoever talking about other F1 related stuff once the race is over, but it's always the same topics over and over. Not only that but it's the same people discussing/arguing the same point every weekend, often about which driver they rate over another or who is the best now or of all time. This will go on for pages and pages and not really go anywhere, which usually drives me away from these threads after race day. I'm sure it drives others away too, which is a shame as we'd all like to come somewhere to read and discuss F1.

There's a whole plethora of post race F1 articles released all the time, these can be technical updates, driver interviews, FOTA news or just things the drivers get up to in their spare time. But it never really gets discussed.

I think he was inferring that you're taking criticism of Lewis as someone would take criticism of a family member. But I might be wrong :)

Ah, that would make more sense. I was thinking there was some trait of Lewis' that had gone completely un-noticed by everyone. If anything, Lewis is taking no notice of what everyone is saying and laughing it all off.

Is he? I read him saying how he is in a bad place I am sure?

If you want, you are more than welcome posting some of these articles. This will steer the discussion away from "who is the best driver", which is where most threads end up after the race is over.

These threads usually go the way of "who is the best driver", because there is nothing else to talk about...the race is done and dusted.

Did he though?

35 points from a Toro Rosso, seven top 6 finishes, absolutely destroyed Bourdais (4 points) despite having 6 retirements in the season to Bourdais' 4. Hell, Vettel singularly outscored the entire Red Bull Renault team in 2008.

He did very well for himself at Toro Rosso IMO.

Hence why I feel he's done more to show his skills off there than he has since he's gone to Red Bull and not had to do much beyond time trial (which he is damn good at) in an exceptional car.
