Again, as Skeeter says - none of those other guys expoited an emotionally vulnerable young driver in order to stack the deck against the rest of the field at a race and then tried to throw him under a bus when the plot unravelled.

I do not understand the 'Alonso is the best driver on the grid' arguments any more.

In 2005 and 2006, yes. In 2007, yeah, I can understand why people would carry the opinion over from his past form. But other than a few glimpses of brilliance, what exactly has he done in the last 5 years that warrant him to still be labelled the best driver on the grid?

Often when you ask people why, they will say its because he beat Schumacher and is a double world title. Thats fair enough, but that was 5 years ago.

I hated Alonso until recent years. What he did last year was almost unprecidented. He damn near won the title in a car that was neither the fastest or most reliable. Had that been the MS era Alonso would have taken that title. They would have just slapped a new gearbox and engine in and drove 100% again.

He had to nurse that car and consistently get on the podium. I thought he was stunning last year. I've seen him win in a car that wasn't fastest before, when he took the title from kimi but that was down to reliability.

I've seen a car that wasn't outright fastest win a title and a car that wasn't the most reliable but man Alonso was close to pulling it off last year in neither the fastest or reliable car.

It's nice to see someone win already and still retain so much hunger. He's a horrid little man no doubt but on the track and professionally he maintains a level of consistency and dedication that MS had.

Of course Massa has been crushed as Webber has been this year. Realisation of being there to make up the numbers in a team must do that to you. Prior to that though he could match Massas pace in a broken car. Or start down the grid and still have massa slowing him down.

I would love to see him paired with Vettel, hopefully at ferrari. Would be nice to see Vettel have car parts taken off him instead :D

yet is has almost broke every record in a single season hmmmm vettel is an amazing driver then obnviously a good 3 seconds faster than anyone else on the grid

McLaren M23 - 2 drivers championships, 1 constructors championships
Lotus 72 - 2 drivers championships, 3 constructors championships

That's domination. And then you get to cars like the McLaren MP4/4, which still holds the record for percentage wins in a season (15 from 16, God bless you Jean-Louis Schlesser for your services to Ferrari :D). Or the Ferrari F2002, still the fastest F1 car of all time according to Motor Sport magazine (edit: the F2004 may have surpassed it, not sure) and the car that scored twice as many points as the rest of the teams put together.

The RB7 has been stupefyingly fast. But six times this year it has been beaten. It's more of a Williams FW15C or McLaren MP4/13 than a Ferrari F2002 or McLaren MP4/4.

If the car is as all dominant as you say it is, why is Mark Webber not picking up the wins when Vettel isn't?

"The most dominant car in F1" is quite a claim.
You appear to have forgotten cars like the Lotus 79, McLaren MP4/4, Ferrari F2002, Ferrari F2004, Ferrari 500, McLaren MP4/2, Benetton B195, Williams FW14B, Williams FW15C, Williams FW18, Lotus 25, McLaren MP4/5....

It's no shed, don't get me wrong, but it isn't exactly 3 seconds faster than the rest of the grid is it?

because hes been neutered , unless you really believe someone who gave vettel a serious challenge last year just suddenly dropped away by a massive amount

This tbh - we have seen cars in the past that have been 30 seconds+ ahead of the rest of the pack by the end of a race. If the car was so good they would have won the constructors a while back.

Ferrari and to a greater extend, McLaren, have nearly caught RB - I am expecting both Ferrari and McLaren to be faster than RB next year.

in the past you didnt have to manage the tyres and the fuel though so cars dont build the big leads like they used to.

if you brought back refueling and got rid of the crap tyre rules you would see the red bull winning by miles.

how many times have we saw vettel in the lead and still have time in reserve ? he nearly always manages the gap based on the pace of cars behind him

Yes you did, and yes you absolutely did.

Tyre management has always been a factor in F1, and as for fuel.... did the whole turbo era bypass you? Fuel management was utterly critical in F1 for a good period, nearly 10 years during the 80s!

Sorry arknor but with comments like that I just cannot take your comments seriously.
