Japanese Grand Prix 2012, Suzuka - Race 15/20

Or, much like we've seen with everyone else this season, some tracks have just suited some cars better than others and the expected results completely flip flop for the next race.

Maybe Red Bull were just well suited here but come next race are back off the pace again?

I think you're being just as premature completely writing off the Ferrari and saying Red Bull will annihilate everyone in all the remaining races as anyone else was a week ago saying McLaren had the quick car and could mount a challenge.

Well put. Exactly this.

Massa was catching up to Button albeit he passed him the pits.
Perez passed Hamilton once (nearly twice).

Where in other races, the Mclaren has been mighty and dominating.

This is a season where no one car is adaptable to all the circuits on the calendar. At some circuits certain cars excel where others don't and the reverse is true at other circuits.

So I'd like to think based on this, the season is still open. It is more likely to be Vettels based on the current form, but as Alonso has shown, form/luck can run out.

Maldonado has been well-ish behaved recently. I don't mind him now, and of course being fast helps. Grossjean on the other hand, is a much more likeable character but how the hell does he manage to cause/be involved in so many incidents? He just seems to lack awareness. He have enough experience, I'm not sure he's going to change. If I was Lotus I'd replace him next season and try and loan him out to a lower grid team.

We've probably now lost what was going to be a nail-bitting end to the season, but I'll be happy whoever wins between Vettel and Alonso.

I didn't even say they will annihilate everyone. I said they are fast enough to keep alonso at bay to win the title. Ferrari has not been the quickest car in the dry ever this year. It's flip flopped between other teams but practically never Ferrari no matter what circuit type.

I still think Mclaren have the fastest car, which is even more of a problem for Alonso should a few Mclarens get between him and Red Bull. I will eat oone os Sunamas hats if Alonso wins the title on pace with DNF's from now til then not taking the title from Vettel.

I can't sense anywhere Alonso can gain enough points over vettel to hold back a faster car in the dry. I've been saying it for months and being proved right.

Glad to see another Vettel win but would rather see Button in the top 3 and ahead of Hamilton in the Championship where he belongs.
Why do you think Button should be ahead of Hamilton in the Championship? I'm pretty sure if you exclude the mechanical failures and team mistakes from both of them then Hamilton would be even further ahead.

I inferred the annihilation from your comment about them being super fast - if they're not going to annihilate everyone then they're not super fast, they're just competitive with everyone else still :p

Ferrari don't need to be the quickest car and that wasn't what my flip flopping comment referred to - I was talking more about the Red Bull's performance. Just because they've had a great race at Suzuka, doesn't necessarily mean they've suddenly come together at the right time and the car is great now and away they go - they might just have had a good weekend, like teams have been doing all season long. A week ago it looked like McLaren had the car to allow Hamilton an outside chance of catching up for a title fight, then they arrive at Suzuka and suddenly this pace has evaporated.

I think it will remain very tight between Alonso and Vettel now, with McLaren securing just enough points for Hamilton to be mathematically in with a chance until about 2 races to go :p

20 seconds behind a cruising Red Bull though.

Remember this is Massa though, he's not exactly performing remarkably well recently - for him to be even remotely in touch just demonstrates that Ferrari car still has pace, pace that will hopefully keep Alonso in the title hunt for a good while longer.

Even so Mclaren absolutely and utterly failed him, he did great in the first stint, saved tyres, for me moved out the way of Perez to drive at his pace rather than defend against a faster car

He got caught napping, how on Earth do you come to the conclusion that he got out of Sergio's way?

The ramifications of his embarrassment showed later on when he moved into the middle of the track and hit the apex properly.

As for the race today great drives by Massa and most of all Kamui. Mclaren seem to have lost pace, solid drive from Jenson. Lewis did OK for damage limitation. Going to be hard for Fred to beat Seb now. I think we're going to see the 3rd consecutive WDC for him.

hes always wondering around with a big grin on his face like hes stoned, perhaps he is :D

I know, he almost looks a little dippy. Not saying he is, he's a likeable person (to any team not being hit by him) but he really seems to lack in spacial awareness/closing speeds/as MB said "close combat"...

These are fundamental traits of a good racing driver, so to see him lacking them perplexes me somewhat.

Can't believe alonsos luck ran out.*
Grosjean is a ****ing moron.*
Nice move on Hamilton by Perez.*
Noooo Perez*
Easy win for vettel. He's gonna end up winning the championship
