Japanese Grand Prix 2014, Suzuka - Race 15/19

Thing is there is no consistency, at the start they kept it out for 4-5 laps when the conditions were nowhere near as bad as towards the end, so why keep it out then but not bring it out later?

WHile I agree that the conditions seemed a little worse at the end than when they started, the field was also much more spread out. At the start you have 22 cars all within a second of the guy infront, with each car being effected by the spray of maybe 10+ cars ahead of them down a straight. Just having the cars closer together made the start significantly more dangerous than the end even though the track conditions were a little better.

However, Charlie has made the mother of all screw ups not bringing out the safety car immediately, everyone would have slowed significantly more than they did.

But this is why they need to speed limit a sector. none of this "look, I went 1/10th slower in that sector this lap... therefore I clearly lifted" bullcrap. With on rules on how slow you have to go everyone has to go pretty much as fast as possible to not lose out to the competitors. There needs to be a speed limit in a particular sector to improve safety and significantly reduce speeds. It might only be 30kph less, or 100 or anything in between, but currently waved yellows means more like be on the look out and go 5kph slower. At least in the wet they have to give a clear rule that cuts speed significantly for everyone in the dangerous area.

A great race and some good passes. Real shame about Bianchi, I hope il he pulls through, looks horrific.
Really should have used a crane there in my opinion.

There are severe scratches on the top of the chassis leading up to the cockpit too, which sounds horrible.

Rather too familiar for Marussia. :(

Right, I'm sure lots on here know of Gary Hartstein - the person that Prof. Sid Watkins chose to replace him. He's made some tweets.

If there's no champagne its very bad. That was my code to the tower that it was ****ful on-scene. No champagne on the podium

The rapidity of the helicopter evac is extremely worrying. About as worried as i can be about what the hospital is going to announce.

Only reasons to evac this fast are isolated severe head injury, severe hemorrhagic shock, or need for ongoing CPR.

I know nothing about the incident itself, its causes or consequences. I'm talking about procedures etc.

And about Brundle's comments about altitude and the helicopter.

Helicopters fly at +/- 500 feet. Negligible pressure effects. Not an issue. At all. But good thought by a pilot!

I've picked and chosen a few of them.

I didn't see Bianchi leave the circuit and was confused at the red flag. I thought it may have been a marshal at first, but this is as serious as I had expected of a race ended due to a red flag.

I hope Jules recovers. A good guy and a good competitor. :(

I'm pretty convinced he's gone nose first under the rear of the recovery truck, coming at it at an angle. :(

Well from that picture above it looks more like the engine at the back has been flattened whereas the nose section doesn't look too bad so perhaps he went in backwards?

Ot the nose went under then the roll hoop hit the truck.

If that was the scenario then it is grim.

The longer this drags out with no official news makes me fear it's extremely serious.

You'd normally at least hear something about being critical but stable or similar fairly soon wouldn't you?

Just seen a picture on Twitter showing waved green flags just before the Jules incident at the marshal's post directly above the Sutil incident, if that is the case, then what on earth were they thinking!!! Praying for you Jules, stay strong brother!

Yes sadly when there is no news for as long as this the outcome usually is very bad from experience of this in previous motorsport accidents.

The atmosphere from the drivers and presenters was full of people who knew a lot more than was being said.

Fingers crossed on being wrong this time though.
