Japanese Grand Prix 2014, Suzuka - Race 15/19

Did a marshal get crushed too?

Hadn't really spent too much time looking at it, didn't notice the guy to the right of of the cat on the right side of Sutil's car. I think he may have taken a whack from Sutil's swinging car and he either got thrown against or jumped back into the tire barrier. I don't think the Cat is against the barrier afterwards nor the car dropped on him.

I did think there could well have been someone else in the air ambulance they haven't publicised, because Bianchi was known at the time and would be obvious where as a marshall being hurt, it could be any of dozens/hundreds of marshalls meaning you would freak out a lot of families by saying a marshall was hurt. There is a reason to keep that quiet (at least temporarily).

Green flag is just beyond the incident. Close but the drivers should only be going back to race pace after the flag.

Though, that isn't going to happen as they barely reduce speed under yellows as it is.

It's an unbelievable impact... you can see how much force was exerted on his head as it actually gets knocked onto his right shoulder as the car scrapes against the recovery truck. God I hope he pulls through this.

The green flag being waved is after the accident site and so is likely the correct flag to be waved.

This is a terrible accident and sad to see it happen. Every hope that jules bianchi makes a full recovered from this. It doesn't look like he went directly in to any sharp points so let's take that tiny positive :(

That's an insane accident. Doesn't matter what you make the car out of, the driver is going to get injured hitting something like that.
Canopy's aren't worth bringing in, you need to stop accidents like this at source. The combination of cars moving as quick as Bianchi, heavy rain, marshals on circuit and the recovery tractor...

The safety car rules need a look at. Enforced speed limits behind the safety car under double yellows with strict punishments.

But when the safety car is on-track, which it was at the time, they reduce speed a fair chunk.

My thought about that green flag is similar to when I am in a 30 zone and I'm approaching a 40 zone.
I start to speed up.

It is possible Bianchi did the same and hydro-plane badness happened :/

iirc, the safety car came out after the Bianchi crash.

When the safety car is on track, green flags don't wave. It is a waved yellow with an SC board under it.
