Max and Charles are definitely the best on the grid at the moment, and I’d probably throw Russell in there too but will have to wait until he has a better car.

Unfortunately with F1, you can be the best driver on the grid but you need the car to make it happen (and the opposite of what Ferrari call strategy).

I think Max and Hamilton are the best on the grid actually. The others need to actually prove themselves by winning something.
So when Hamilton use to win races and titles, it's the car but when max does it, it's the driver...

Eh? That isnt what i said at all. I firmly believe it is always a mixture of both.

They’ve also said it won’t be a quick fix- which I take to mean they are working heavily on next years car. Honestly, for a team that was languishing in the midfield at the beginning of the year tk challenging for podiums or p4 consistently recently, that’s pretty good going.

As for drivers, Leclerc has shown himself up a little bit this year. He had made mistakes but at the same time Ferrari have royally screwed him as well. As I keep saying about Hamilton, it’s the consistency that’s key. I’m not sure Leclerc has it to win a championship - and I’m not sure RB and Max have it to start challenging records.

I still get the feeling if Norris had a go in a RB then he’d show Max up.

The thing with Lando Norris is that so far he's never been challenged really to prove that he is a top, top tier driver.
Sainz is consistent but just that little bit off the top (more like a Bottas or Barrichello) and Ricciardo has just looked totally out of sorts alongside Norris, hopefully Piastri will be a better challenge for him but its going to take time.

True. But I think with the way that people bang on about Max's raw speed.. well personally I think Lando probably has that too, he's had some amazing drives in that Mclaren.

*clears throat*

FEEEEK!!!

@Feek

I think he's on holiday!

True, time will tell, if McLaren don't get to the front of the grid in the next couple of years Lando will be off to one of the big 3 anyway to test his mettle properly.

By the way, I saw a replay of the Gasly crane incident for the first time yesterday evening. Wow. No idea it was that close. I assumed it was off to the side of the track or something. Somebody certainly should be fired over that, how awful.

True, but I think having a team fully committed behind you is a big factor. I don't think Lando could walk into another top tier team and wipe the floor with their existing driver like he's done to his teammates in McLaren. Same with Max, and Charles.

Actually, it makes what George has achieved this year all the more impressive.

Difficult race to rate. On the one hand, the actual race was pretty good, with some good battling down the field, the brave early switchers to Inters, and the potential for interesting tactical variation about when they stopped for fresh inters. On the other hand, the whole thing was nipped in the bud by foolish time limit rules, the rain wasn't well handled, there was the dangerous flat bed on track, and the confusion over how points were awarded.

I think I give it 6/10 overall.

i'd love to see a 3 way (or more) fight next year but won't get too excited about Merc until we see Race 1 next season, they've said a few times this year they've been confident they've understood and or fixed their issue and then been disappointed.

They’ve also said it won’t be a quick fix- which I take to mean they are working heavily on next years car.

As @Scam says, they know it's not a simple thing to fix. IIRC from the Reddit thread, they basically said they couldn't fix it within this year's cost cap, so they've had to focus on next season.

It could be "jam tomorrow", but I'm always the optimist. :D

Fair enough. It's sad how Ferrari completely lost the plot halfway through the season because Charles was showing some real potential in the first few races.

It was better than Spa last year, which it could have easily become.

I do think the full wet tyres need fixing for next season. There is no way an intermediate tyre should be faster than a full wet, when it's fully wet.
